Chapter 1: Thrown into the Cowshed
“Mo-mo, don’t scare Mommy. Please wake up quickly. Mommy doesn’t want your dad anymore. Mommy only wants to be with you.”
Xu Qingmo felt her body being shaken back and forth. Her head felt heavy and dull, and the back of her head hurt badly, as if it had slammed into something.
Something was wrong…
The word Mommy felt far too unfamiliar to her. Her mother had died not long after she was born. Her father, in order to temper her, had sent her down to Blue Star’s harshest slave zone.
She clawed her way up step by step, surviving countless hardships, just as success was within reach—only to be ruthlessly murdered by her own father…
Xu Qingmo suddenly opened her eyes.
Inside a crude grass shed propped up by four wooden poles, she was lying across a woman’s legs. Large teardrops fell onto her face one after another.
“Why are you crying? I’m not dead yet,” a weak, childish voice spoke.
The woman holding her froze.
So did Xu Qingmo.
She was clearly already an adult—so why did she sound like a child? Had she transmigrated?
Wang Jing ignored Xu Qingmo’s cold attitude, pulled her tightly into her arms, and cried even harder.
Xu Qingmo disliked such close contact, yet deep inside, she felt an inexplicable longing for it.
It was probably because the original owner’s body carried the same blood as this woman’s. That bond of kinship restrained her, and she barely resisted pushing her away.
“Moo—”
A cow’s lowing sounded. Only then did Xu Qingmo realize she was in a cowshed, surrounded by the strong stench of manure.
She frowned in disgust, which made the wound on the back of her head throb even more painfully.
“Hiss…”
Back in the interstellar era, she had long grown accustomed to pain. So why, after inhabiting this child’s body, did the pain feel so intense?
Wang Jing noticed her reaction and hurriedly picked her up, stumbling toward the barefoot doctor’s house.
As Xu Qingmo swayed in her arms, she fell unconscious again.
She had a dream.
In the dream, inside a dilapidated mud house, Wang Jing married a man dressed in patched clothes, with villagers present as witnesses.
Later, Wang Jing became pregnant. That man’s family gradually revealed their true faces, seizing all the money and grain coupons she had brought with her.
After that, they used Wang Jing’s money to repair the house, marry off the second son, and set aside part of the remaining money as dowry for the youngest daughter.
Suddenly, the man who had married Wang Jing appeared in the room again, threatening and coaxing her to give him money to pay off his gambling debts. Wang Jing cried and said she had no money left. He didn’t believe her and beat her viciously.
The original owner was only five years old. She ran forward on her short little legs and spread her arms to shield her mother.
She was flung aside by the man. Her head struck the leg of a nearby table. Though she still had a breath left, the man’s entire family waited until nightfall and dumped the mother and daughter into the cowshed, leaving them to fend for themselves.
Even Xu Qingmo, who had witnessed countless deaths on the battlefield, felt a trace of sympathy for the original owner’s fate.
From this dream, she learned that she shared the same name as the original owner.
The original owner’s mother had been the daughter of a capitalist family. She had been sent down to the countryside as an educated youth and ended up in Xu Family Village, where a man named Xu Yuanlong sneaked into her room under cover of darkness.
Wang Jing resisted but was overpowered.
In the 1970s, a woman’s chastity was her life. With no other choice, Wang Jing was forced to marry Xu Yuanlong.
She had believed that if she handed over her family assets, he would live a proper life with her. Instead, once he realized how many resources she possessed, his greed only grew…
“She’s just a worthless money-loser. If she dies, it’s her short life. Why waste money on treatment?” A furious voice rang out.
Xu Yuanlong’s mother, Wang Xiuzhi, stood with her hands on her hips, driving Wang Jing and Xu Qingmo out of the barefoot doctor’s house.
Wang Jing’s eyes reddened with humiliation as she spoke to Wang Xiuzhi.
“All my money has already gone to you. Mo-mo’s treatment only costs one yuan and two mao. As long as you give me that one yuan and two mao, I won’t argue about anything you took before.”
Several families were present at the barefoot doctor’s house. Hearing the commotion, they gathered nearby and began whispering among themselves.
“I knew it. No wonder Wang Xiuzhi’s family suddenly struck it rich. Turns out they took their daughter-in-law’s money. Before this, they even claimed her son learned some money-making skill in town.”
“Wang Xiuzhi always likes to pull her pants over her face and brag about how capable her family is. In reality, her eldest son Xu Yuanlong loafs around all day and gambles away whatever spare cash he gets. The second son, Xu Hai, barely studied at all, yet still managed to marry the village chief’s cousin’s daughter. They gave a hundred yuan as bride price—clearly paid by Wang Jing.”
“I also heard Wang Xiuzhi prepared dowry money for her youngest daughter. Otherwise, that dark, ugly, chubby girl would’ve been stuck at home and never caught the eye of someone from the neighboring village.”
“They didn’t fancy the daughter—they fancied the dowry. Everyone’s poor these days. Having money means food…”
“All of you shut up!” Wang Xiuzhi roared again. “All you do is gossip about other people’s families. Say one more word and I’ll tear your mouths apart!”
The villagers immediately fell silent.
Wang Jing still tried to ask for the money, but Wang Xiuzhi grabbed her by the collar and slapped her pale face several times.
Wang Jing’s face instantly swelled and reddened.
Concerned about getting money for Xu Qingmo’s treatment, Wang Jing didn’t dare fight back.
Wang Xiuzhi only became more aggressive, hurling insults nonstop.
“Useless slut, worthless trash who can only give birth to daughters. Marrying into my Xu family was a blessing earned over several lifetimes! And you dare say the money and belongings came from you? How shameless! Those were clearly earned by my capable son!”
“It was clearly my money—” Wang Jing protested.
Another slap landed squarely on her mouth, cutting off the rest of her words.
“Bullshit! You were penniless long ago. You schemed your way into my Yuanlong’s bed just to stay in Xu Family Village. We let you live under our roof and gave you food to eat, and yet you turned out to be an ungrateful white-eyed wolf. Not only do you refuse to repay kindness, you even stir up trouble. Let’s see if I don’t beat you to death today!”
Wang Xiuzhi glanced around, grabbed a broom nearby, and charged again.
The next second, the broom ignited in her hands. Flames burned her palms, blistering the skin.
Her hands clenched tightly around the broom handle as the fire burned directly in her palms.
She couldn’t let go, no matter how hard she tried.
It was as if she had seen a living ghost.
Behind Wang Jing, a small figure appeared.
Xu Qingmo stared coldly at Wang Xiuzhi, calmly admiring her agony.
In the interstellar era, Xu Qingmo had awakened fire-type abilities. After transmigrating into this small body, her powers were suppressed to only thirty percent.
But dealing with trash like Wang Xiuzhi was more than enough.
“My hands are on fire! Someone save me!” Wang Xiuzhi wailed in agony.
The surrounding villagers watched with their own eyes as a ball of fire burned in Wang Xiuzhi’s hands. Terrified, they backed away one after another, all afraid of getting dragged into it.
