Chapter 3: No Longer Indebted
“You wretched woman, Yu Xiaowan! First, you broke up my son and Minwei, and now you’ve caused Minwei to have a miscarriage.” Wang Yingzhi glared at me with hatred, then stamped her foot in frustration.
“I don’t know what Father was thinking, allowing a vicious woman like you to enter our Jiang Family. Really…”
Jiang Ruohe stood up from his chair, saying he was going to see Huang Minwei.
“Wait, I’ll go with you.” Wang Yingzhi shot me a disgusted look before turning to Jiang Ruohe. Her voice was full of concern, “That poor Minwei, not saying anything about something as serious as a miscarriage. She can’t be left alone without someone to take care of her.”
“What about Grandfather…”
“Don’t worry, I’ll speak with Butler Chen. He’ll contact you before Father arrives.”
“Yu Xiaowan, you’d better behave yourself. If you dare gossip in front of Father, I’ll make sure you regret it.” After this warning, Wang Yingzhi followed Jiang Ruohe out.
Disheveled, I reached for a tissue to wipe my face. Within a minute, a nurse entered with fresh bedding, giving me a reproachful look as she commented on how I couldn’t even drink soup properly.
I smiled bitterly, threw off the covers, and said I was going to wash my hair in the bathroom. The moment the bathroom door closed, I leaned against it and sank to the floor in misery.
Early the next morning, Butler Chen from Jiang Mingzhe’s household arrived, bringing me various Nourishment items.
“The Master asked me to inquire, Young Madam, whether the Young Master took care of you last night?”
I looked calmly at Butler Chen, who somewhat guiltily averted his eyes, quietly awaiting my response.
“Tell Grandfather that he did, and he took very good care of me.”
After Butler Chen left, I got out of bed and walked to the window, coincidentally spotting Jiang Ruohe in the courtyard with Huang Minwei.
So Huang Minwei was in this hospital too.
He carefully helped Huang Minwei sit on a bench, took a bowl of soup, blew on it several times, and fed her spoonful by spoonful.
After drinking the soup, Huang Minwei nestled happily in Jiang Ruohe’s embrace. Just then, Jiang Ruohe seemed to sense my gaze and looked up. I quickly hid to the side.
Leaning against the wall, I took out the necklace from around my neck and quietly gazed at the English letters on it, my eyes unconsciously reddening.
I don’t know how long I stood there before hearing the door handle turn. I hurriedly tucked the necklace back into my clothes.
When I saw Huang Minwei, surprise flickered in my eyes. She walked up to me.
A faint, irritating smile graced her face as she spoke softly yet mockingly, “You saw Ruohe with me in the courtyard just now, didn’t you? He has always loved me, so I advise you to be sensible and divorce him quickly.”
“Huang Minwei, Jiang Ruohe only believes you pushed me down the stairs because he loves you and didn’t think clearly. His love for you makes him biased.” I looked at her coldly. “But surveillance footage doesn’t lie.”
“Yesterday at the coffee shop, I never pushed you down the stairs. You were the one who splashed coffee in my face. When I left, you deliberately followed me.”
“When you were taken to the hospital, I went to the coffee shop manager and obtained the video from that time.”
Huang Minwei’s face instantly turned pale.
“I’ll take responsibility for this matter. From now on, there’s no debt between us.”
I moved past her, intending to go out for some fresh air, but Huang Minwei grabbed my arm.
“Yu Xiaowan, what a fine line about ‘no debts between us’ you snatched the position that rightfully belonged to me, and you think I’d let you off easily? Don’t even dream of it.”
After saying this, she glanced behind me, a faint, almost imperceptible smile flashing in her eyes. Releasing me, she stepped back and deliberately fell to the ground.
Before I could react, someone shoved me hard, and my head slammed against the wall. My mind went blank for an instant, then pain jolted me back to awareness.
