Chapter 4: Do You Think I’m an ATM?
Turning around, I met Jiang Ruohe’s furious gaze, his face already contorted. He was like an enraged lion, immediately reaching out to choke my neck.
“You still dare to bully Minwei?” At this moment, Jiang Ruohe truly wanted to kill me.
I let out a cold laugh.
“Jiang Ruohe, get this straight this is my hospital room.”
It was Huang Minwei who came to my room! If anyone’s causing trouble, it’s her bothering me! But for someone like Jiang Ruohe, whose IQ drops to zero whenever Huang Minwei is involved, there’s simply no reasoning with him.
Huang Minwei, standing nearby, looked panicked and hurriedly pulled Jiang Ruohe away.
Jiang Ruohe continued to glare coldly at me, while Huang Minwei quickly explained that she knew Jiang Ruohe had caused me to miscarry and felt guilty, so she came to check on me.
“Xiao Wan didn’t do it on purpose. I just fell accidentally because my body is weak.”
Jiang Ruohe was full of heartache for her, but when he turned to look at me, the fury in his eyes seemed intense enough to burn me to ashes. Perhaps remembering something else, he shot me a sharp glare before escorting Huang Minwei back to her room.
I reached up to touch the wound on my forehead, a bitter smile flashing in my eyes. Yu Xiaowan, when did you start living so pathetically?
The next morning, my phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, I felt a wave of helplessness but answered anyway. “Aunt Tian.”
“Xiao Wan, do you have any money left? Your Uncle Chen is sick again. The doctor said it might be cancer…” The person on the other end spoke while pretending to sob quietly.
Though I rubbed my temples in frustration, suppressing the complex emotions in my heart, I asked her, “Aunt Tian, how long do you plan to keep lying to me?”
“In just this past month, you’ve claimed Uncle Chen might have had three different cancers first stomach cancer, then intestinal cancer, and last time, even funnier, you said uterine cancer…”
Aunt Tian paused noticeably at my words, her tone weakening considerably. “Xiao Wan, this time, I’m not lying to you. Your Uncle Chen is really sick and genuinely needs money. Can you lend me some?”
“I really don’t have any. Last time, I gave you everything, including my bank card that was all my savings. I truly have no money now.”
“But you’re the young mistress of the Jiang Family! You can ask them for money,” Aunt Tian urged anxiously.
Mentioning the Jiang Family brought back the impatience I had just suppressed. “That’s the Jiang Family’s money. It has nothing to do with me.”
“But your Uncle Chen really needs the money now. I have no other choice. Xiao Wan, please think of a way. It’s not much just two hundred thousand…”
“Two hundred thousand? Aunt Tian, do you think I’m an ATM? You might as well sell me off.”
“Then how about one hundred thousand? Xiao Wan, I know you can manage it. Please help Uncle Chen again. I promise this is the last time.”
“Aunt Tian, if Uncle Chen were really sick, I would find a way to help him no matter what. But I just saw the news Uncle Chen was arrested for gambling again. If he really had some incurable disease, how would he have the mood or the money to gamble?”
“Xiao Wan, I know it’s wrong to deceive you. But now, Old Chen is all I have left. I can’t just watch him go to jail. You’re right his gambling is really becoming a problem. I promise that once he’s out, I’ll talk some sense into him. Xiao Wan, for Chen Xi’s sake, I’m begging you to help your Uncle Chen one more time.”
Hearing the name Chen Xi, my heart suddenly ached sharply.
“Xiao Wan, think of how good Chen Xi was to you. Can you really bear to see Uncle Chen suffering in prison?” Aunt Tian began to cry.
I clutched my chest in pain.
“Give me some time.”
