Chapter 4: The Door Bites
Luo Shisi’s mother-in-law’s family was quite wealthy.
Her mother-in-law, He Jianhua, had earned a considerable fortune from overseas ventures in her early years. Later, she used her savings to open a chain of restaurants in the city, which became highly renowned.
As she grew older, He Jianhua returned to the village to contribute to its development. She paved asphalt roads and installed streetlights, ensuring that villagers no longer had to navigate their way home in the dark.
Afterward, she built a villa on the mountainside not far from the village, earning the envy of many households.
He Jianhua was highly respected in the local community and was regarded as a local notable.
Meanwhile, He Qing had long ago been admitted to the top university in Z Province, where he studied law. Villagers would often seek his advice whenever they encountered civil disputes they couldn’t resolve.
Thus, out of respect for He Jianhua and He Qing, Luo Shisi could essentially do as she pleased in the village without facing significant opposition.
As an Alpha, she also benefited from societal privileges, viewing the world through a polished and idealized lens.
It had never occurred to her just how depraved and unscrupulous actions could become in an ignorant, backward place.
She had always scoffed at reports on television and in the news, never imagining she would witness such things firsthand.
She wondered if that Omega had been frightened.
After all, he seemed timid, with eyes that reddened easily.
If he were scared, she might reluctantly spend a couple of days with him to cheer him up.
In psychological terms, this was called helping a patient overcome trauma.
Just thinking about it made Luo Shisi feel as though she were radiating golden light.
She gave herself a thumbs-up: “Luo Shisi! So considerate! Exceptionally gentle, A!”
Lin Chao’s home was a short distance from her mother-in-law’s house her mother-in-law’s to the north, his to the south. However, Alphas naturally possessed strong endurance, and since returning to her hometown, Luo Shisi had been wandering around everywhere. She reached his place quickly without even getting out of breath.
His door was closed but not locked, secured only by a latch on the inside. Just as Luo Shisi reached out to undo it, she remembered her status and immediately straightened up with seriousness.
This was her first time visiting her future concubine’s grandmother’s house she couldn’t be impolite. Her father had taught her to always knock before entering.
So, Luo Shisi stood where she had once subdued a boar, cleared her throat, put on a smile, and reached out to knock.
But she had forgotten one thing… it was a wooden door.
A crudely processed wooden door, typical of the countryside!
The moment her knuckles made contact, a sharp, piercing pain shot through her left hand.
“Oww” she yelped, quickly covering her mouth. After checking that no one was around, she pulled her hand back, clutching it between her thighs. Within seconds, her face flushed red from suppressing the pain.
Eventually, Luo Shisi recovered, though her knuckle was cut and bleeding slightly from a splinter.
She sucked at the wound on her finger, then finally scowled and reached out to undo the latch, swinging the damned wooden door open.
She felt foolish for her unnecessary display of courtesy.
As soon as the door opened, she looked up and saw Chai Xiaoqing emerging from inside. His eyes lit up at the sight of Luo Shisi.
This was Luo Shisi getting close to her would be like stumbling into a pile of good fortune.
Luo Shisi recognized him but had never spoken to him because Chai Xiaoqing was always hanging around the groups of middle-aged men on the village streets, pointing fingers, mocking, and ridiculing others. He was simply unpleasant to be around.
But this was the foolish rabbit’s Second Aunt’s Husband, so she still had to restrain herself a little and couldn’t avoid him as distantly as before.
So when Chai Xiaoqing excitedly walked over to strike up a conversation with her, Luo Shisi politely sidestepped him and headed straight for the door.
Chai Xiaoqing’s outstretched hand hung empty in the air, leaving him extremely awkward: “……”.
The cave dwelling’s windows were covered with white paper, and a hole was opened on the balcony, covered with a cloth of the same size this was a cat hole reserved for cats.
A white cat was currently pushing through the cloth from inside, poking its head out. Its whiskers twitched slightly as its golden eyes watched her, its furry face full of vigilance.
There were many rats in the village, and almost every household kept cats. Luo Shisi merely glanced at it, and the cat darted away, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Why did this cat also resemble that person so much?
Why had so many foolish rabbits suddenly appeared in her world?
They were happily wagging their fluffy tails, jumping around and frolicking in her world!? It was too surreal. Luo Shisi felt something was off with herself.
She composed her emotions, lifted the curtain, revealed her pearly white teeth, and said to the people inside with a smile: “Hello everyone, may I ask… um, is Xingxing home? I came to play with him.”
Only the old lady and the Lin family’s eldest daughter were inside. They turned to look at her upon hearing this.
Luo Shisi nodded to them. She didn’t know the foolish rabbit’s real name, having only heard his father call him “Xingxing.”
Grandma Lin Chao had become somewhat sensitive to the phrase “I came to play with him” by now.
Although she wasn’t entirely pleased that the third son’s family had a male child, she wasn’t as feudal as Li Laosan’s family.
Still, no matter what, she couldn’t let the child be abducted or bullied under her watch. The police had shown them the surveillance footage the child’s condition was truly pitiful. Just one glance made her heart ache, and even the old lady had teared up.
Hearing Luo Shisi’s words, she immediately became alert. The old lady’s aged eyes fixed on her warily as she muttered: “You bad kids! What do you want with our Xingxing again!”
“Oh mom, this is the benefactor who saved Xingxing. Please don’t be angry,” Lin Chao’s First Aunt came over to explain to her.
Then she smiled at Luo Shisi: “Xingxing is at the other home. Just go out and turn right his mother and father are with him there.”
“Thank you…” Luo Shisi retreated and turned right.
As she approached the door, she heard arguing inside one female and one male voice, likely the foolish rabbit’s mother and father.
Her fingers curled back from pushing the door, then moved to the window where she slowly poked a hole in the paper. When she peered inside, she met the boy’s gaze directly.
The cave dwelling was deep, and the inner area wasn’t very bright. The boy’s parents were arguing in the background while the boy sat quietly by the stove, doing homework at the bedside. His face appeared somewhat swollen.
At this moment, he was looking at her curiously, even tilting his head slightly.
Luo Shisi inexplicably felt… an arrow had struck her heart.
He’s kind of cute… What should I do? How can there be such an adorable Omega?
The Omegas she’d seen before were all fiercely aggressive.
Just as she was immersed in her own created fantasy, she heard the Omega’s soft voice as he pointed at her and said: “Mom, someone’s poking holes in our window paper…”
“…”, Luo Shisi’s heart instantly hardened like steel. How could such a cute Omega be a tattletale?
Already fuming and unable to find a punching bag, Lin Guizhi heard this and thought how outrageous!? She immediately marched toward the door, launching into a verbal tirade!
“Stealing while people are still home? Is this your first time in this line of work!? Looking down on me!?”
Luo Shisi: “……”.
If peeking counted as stealing, then yes, this was indeed her first time.
When Mother Lin opened the door and saw it was her, the anger on her face turned into astonishment: “You child, why didn’t you knock when you arrived?”
Luo Shisi only felt the knuckles on her left hand beginning to ache faintly again.
The corner of her mouth twitched as she forced an awkward smile.
It’s not like I can say your door bites people, can I?
