“Everyone, get back!”
The comrades who had been pressing the Demon King back, quickly retreated.
I leaped high into the air and drove my sword downward. The sharp tip of the blade pierced the Demon King’s heart and slammed into the ground.
K-boom!
Along with the sound of exploding magic power, a scream erupted from the Demon King.
“Kuaaaaagh!”
Since I had torn through his second heart as well, he would have no choice but to be cast back into the Underworld this time.
I let out a long sigh as I watched the purple blood spread across the Demon King’s back.
“Whew…”
The end was finally in sight. The conclusion of this tedious novel was approaching.
Just then, my comrade, the Imperial Prince of the Filio Empire, Leonhart, shouted.
“Adel! Watch out! The ground is collapsing!”
Following him, the hot-tempered mage Ruspell began making a fuss, and the gentle priest Owen paced anxiously.
“Hey, you idiot! What are you idling around for! Leave that bastard and run right now!”
“A-Adel! It’s dangerous! Please get out of there quickly!”
I leaned my body forward as if to pull out my sword. The Demon King’s ragged breathing grew closer.
“Huff! Huff!”
I could feel his life force rapidly draining away. Looking into his crimson eyes, I whispered softly.
“Hurry up and say your lines.”
“Kugh… L-lines? What on earth are you talking about!”
“You have something to say to me. Just get on with it.”
The Demon King furrowed his brow menacingly.
“You mock me until the very end! But you would do well not to be arrogant! I am not being annihilated; I am merely returning to the Underworld!”
‘Right, that’s the one.’
I wiped the Demon King’s blood from my face.
“Farewell. Once you go back in, don’t crawl back out for a while.”
“I have no intention of doing so. I suspect it won’t be boring this time.”
The Demon King smiled vilely. I raised an eyebrow and asked.
“What are you plotting?”
“I had a thought. I wondered if the tedious Underworld might become interesting if I were with you.”
“With me?”
The moment I answered, a Level 2 command appeared.
[Level 2: (Firmly) Stop bluffing!]
I read it mechanically.
“Stop bluffing.”
“Is it truly a bluff? Can you not see the spirits agitated around you?”
His words were true.
Having sensed something, the spirits had been flying frantically around me for a while now.
-
- Adel! Something’ off! I think something’s gone wrong! Should I blast him away with an Aqua Ball?
-
- Ah, fuck, looks like he’s trying to pull some trick. Contractor, move aside. Let me roast this bastard with fire.
-
- Lady Adel, the wind is fluctuating ominously. I think it would be best to bind the Demon King’s limbs first; what do you think? If that’s too tedious, there’s a simpler method of cutting out his tongue.
Ignoring the clamor of the spirits, I spoke indifferently.
“I’m extremely tired right now, okay? I get it, so let’s just move the plot along.”
The Demon King’s expression faltered slightly. Then, as if realizing something, he smiled darkly.
“You intend to stall for time with strange words. You’ve used your head quite a bit, but you cannot deceive me!”
I had no intention of deceiving him. I simply wished for it to end quickly.
“I shall now release the remainder of my power. With your skill, you might survive. However, your comrades will surely die!”
To think he would explain exactly how he was going to attack in such detail.
‘For a Demon King, how incredibly kind he is.’
I silently waited for the Demon King’s next line.
“But if you choose death with me, I shall spare them. Now, choose. You, or your comrades.”
‘Ah… finally, the ending.’
