At dawn, the Xiao family convoy departed the capital, racing straight toward Wanshan Province.
Many factions quickly noticed this highly unusual sight. With a bit of inquiry, they learned that the Xiao family’s young master, Xiao Tianzuo, had been detained in Yunshan City of Wanshan Province.
For a time, the capital’s social circles gained another source of mockery, most of it aimed at ridiculing people from small places who didn’t know the immensity of heaven and earth.
In their eyes, provoking the Xiao family was no different from provoking the authority of all the other great clans of the capital.
At a highway interchange.
Just after the Xiao convoy passed, dozens of Heaven-tier experts appeared one after another.
One of them watched the convoy disappear into the distance and spoke coldly into his phone,
“The Xiao family convoy has headed toward Wanshan Province.”
“Jiang Yuan, ants like the Xiao family aren’t worth the Temple Master’s personal attention. Give us ten seconds, and we can wipe out the Xiao family completely.”
From the other end of the line came Jiang Yuan’s steady voice:
“The Temple Master’s rage needs an outlet. We simply carry out orders.”
“Since the Xiao family is already on the move, all of you should head to Wanshan Province as well.”
Dozens of Heaven-tier figures flashed, instantly shooting toward Wanshan Province, their speed leaving behind nothing but streaks of black shadows.
At the same time, inside the Capital Security Directorate’s base.
As everyone watched the dozens of Heaven-tier experts vanish from the satellite feed, they all let out a sigh of relief.
They truly feared that the Temple of the War God’s powerhouses would make a move inside the capital; if that happened, the Capital Security Directorate would lose all face.
Wanshan Province, the provincial capital.
Alone, Ye Wei drove to the headquarters of a company called Starlight Entertainment.
Before long, a young woman wearing a white lace blouse and light-blue jeans hurried out.
She looked about twenty-five, with neat, shoulder-length short hair. Worry was written all over her delicate face.
Spotting Ye Wei sitting on a bench not far away, the woman walked over quickly, sat beside her, and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“Weiwei, what happened?”
Ye Wei’s eyes were red as she choked out,
“Yaoyao was taken. I can’t find her.”
“What?!” Jiang Yiyi’s gaze turned sharp. “Tell me everything, slowly.”
A short while later, Ye Wei finished recounting the entire sequence of events.
Jiang Yiyi frowned deeply. “Weiwei, from what you said, you don’t know that Daoist at all. That means he probably didn’t take Yaoyao to threaten you. For now, Yaoyao should be safe.”
“I’ll go find my dad immediately and have him mobilize all his connections to look for her.”
Her expression turned icy. “As for that bastard Xiao Zhan, forget him for now. He can’t help with this anyway!”
Ye Wei shook her head, her voice trembling.
“I was the one who lied to him, saying I was going back home to get married, telling him not to look for me. This isn’t his fault.”
“And weren’t you doing that to protect him?!” Jiang Yiyi snapped angrily.
“If your Ye family had found out you got pregnant by a poor nobody, do you think he’d still be alive?”
“Enough, we’re going to see my dad right now!”
With that, Jiang Yiyi pulled Ye Wei to her feet and hurried toward the parking lot.
Not far away, a pair of twin sisters with close-cropped hair exchanged a glance. Their figures flashed and vanished on the spot.
They were the Temple of the War God’s only two female Heaven-tier experts, the Twin Maidens; names that struck fear into countless foreign powerhouses.
Yunshan City’s iconic landmark is the summit of the thousand-meter Yunjiang Iron Tower.
Xiao Zhan stood with his hands clasped behind his back. With every passing second, the chill in his gaze deepened.
Jiang Yuan once again stepped across the river, flipping and vaulting as he landed atop the tower. He handed a phone to Xiao Zhan, then respectfully stood at the tower’s edge.
Xiao Zhan said flatly,
“The Temple of the War God has never known defeat and has shaken all directions.”
“Now, with Dark Shadow included and every hidden member mobilized, we could turn all of Wanshan Province upside down, and yet we still can’t find my daughter. I’m very disappointed.”
Jiang Yuan lowered his head, his face full of guilt.
Seeing that Jiang Yuan dared not respond, Xiao Zhan asked slowly,
“Speak. What happened?”
Jiang Yuan nodded. “Temple Master, last night, several forces attempted to attack our Temple of the War God’s bases around the world.”
“Strangely enough, all of them were intercepted midway and completely eradicated overnight.”
Xiao Zhan gave a soft hum. “I know. No need to investigate further.”
Confusion flickered in Jiang Yuan’s eyes, followed by a sudden realization of a terrifying possibility. His face changed in shock, but he dared not ask. Turning around, he dove straight down toward the river.
At that moment, a crimson sun slowly rose into the sky.
Standing atop the tower and gazing toward the provincial city, Xiao Zhan used the phone Jiang Yuan had given him to call Ye Wei.
The phone rang for a long time before it was answered by a woman’s unfamiliar voice.
“Who is this?”
Xiao Zhan’s gaze turned icy.
“Why is Weiwei’s phone in your hands?!”
“I don’t care who you are. If you dare harm her in the slightest, I’ll make sure you die without a burial!”
Driving the car, Jiang Yiyi froze for a moment. She glanced at Ye Wei sleeping in the rearview mirror, then lowered her voice with a cold snort.
“You’re that bastard Xiao Zhan, aren’t you?”
“Don’t put on an act like you care so much about Weiwei. You know exactly what kind of trash you are!”
“I’m warning you, too, don’t interfere in Weiwei’s life ever again!”
Hearing how Jiang Yiyi addressed Ye Wei, Xiao Zhan finally relaxed a little and said slowly,
“Thank you for taking care of Weiwei. For the past five years, I’ve owed her and the child too much.”
“Now that I’m back, I’ll make Weiwei the happiest woman in this world.”
His voice was firm and resounding, echoing again and again in Jiang Yiyi’s ears.
It took her several seconds to come back to herself. Then she sneered repeatedly.
“Arrogant and ignorant. You know nothing about this world. Happiness has never been won with a few grand words.”
With that, she hung up and immediately added Xiao Zhan’s number to the blacklist.
Xiao Zhan opened his contacts, found the Twin Maidens’ number, and dialed.
The call was answered instantly.
He went straight to the point. “What is the identity of the woman beside Weiwei?”
Both Twin Maidens were Heaven-tier experts. At that moment, they were flipping and leaping across rooftops, their eyes never leaving the red sports car speeding along the road.
Hearing Xiao Zhan’s question, the twins replied in unison,
“Reporting to the Temple Master: this woman is Jiang Yiyi, of the Jiang family in the provincial capital, your wife’s close friend.”
“Temple Master, rest assured. She is within our protection range. The Temple Master’s wife will be safe.”
Xiao Zhan gave a soft hum and hung up.
Although the Jiang family was also a prominent clan in the provincial capital, they were far more low-key than others, living in a mid-tier villa district.
Jiang Yiyi rushed Ye Wei into the villa, immediately drawing the attention of three middle-aged men in the living room.
The three looked quite similar, clearly brothers.
The one with streaks of white hair and the most imposing presence was Jiang Yaozu, Jiang Yiyi’s father. The two slightly younger men were his brothers, Jiang Yaowen, who wore glasses and looked refined, and Jiang Yaowu, whose gaze was sharp and voice hoarse.
All three examined Ye Wei closely.
As Jiang Yiyi’s close friend, Ye Wei had visited the Jiang household before. The family was familiar with her and her background.
Jiang Yaowen frowned slightly. “Yiyi, you said on the phone that this was extremely urgent. What exactly happened?”
Jiang Yiyi pulled Ye Wei to the sofa and explained everything.
After listening, Jiang Yaowen and Jiang Yaowu both turned to their eldest brother.
Jiang Yaozu looked at Ye Wei and spoke slowly,
“Girl, I’ve heard about a major figure arriving in Yunshan City.”
“There are rumors that your Ye family offended someone powerful and was wiped out. Don’t blame me for being blunt, but until it’s clear whether you also offended that person, I can’t help you.”
Ye Wei panicked. “Uncle Jiang, I knew nothing about what happened to the Ye family.”
Jiang Yiyi glared at her father. “Dad, Yaoyao is my goddaughter. You have to help!”
Jiang Yaozu’s expression didn’t change as he shook his head.
“Girl, don’t blame me. This matter… mmph!”
Jiang Yaozu pulled Jiang Yiyi’s hand away from his mouth, irritated.
“Why are you covering my mouth?!”
Jiang Yiyi glared at him. “Don’t forget, back in high school, if Weiwei hadn’t risked her life to save me, I would’ve drowned!”
Jiang Yaozu opened his mouth, but all his words died in his throat. He could no longer refute her.
Jiang Yaowen coughed lightly and said to his brother,
“Big Brother, at most, we’re just sending people to check on that Daoist’s whereabouts. It shouldn’t cause any real trouble.”
Jiang Yaowu nodded as well, his voice raspy.
“I’ll handle it.”
Hearing this, Ye Wei forced back her tears and thanked them repeatedly.
“Thank you, Uncles. Thank you all.”
“That’s enough, no need for thanks,” Jiang Yiyi said, helping Ye Wei up.
“I’ll take you upstairs to rest. When the child is found, you can’t afford to collapse first.”
