In her previous life, Meng Youyou had always been exceptionally meticulous when it came to skincare—far more than the average person.
On top of that, she had a natural tendency to scar easily and possessed a cool-toned, porcelain complexion. Even the slightest injury would leave marks that stood out vividly on her skin.
Fortunately, in the modern era, medical technology was advanced. Effective scar-removal creams were easily available at pharmacies.
And if that wasn’t enough, aesthetic clinics could remove scars almost instantly.
So someone as beauty-conscious as Meng Youyou had never worried about it.
But now?
Forget aesthetic treatments—
She couldn’t even find a basic scar-removal ointment.
Inside the treatment room, the three others watched as Meng Youyou became visibly dejected just because she couldn’t find scar medicine.
She looked like all the life had been drained out of her—as if the sky had fallen.
Each of them had their own thoughts.
Chu Yao: They’re just a few scratches… even if they scar, how much could it matter? Is this really necessary?
Huo Qingshan: If even one of my scars appeared on her body… she’d probably lose her mind on the spot.
Zhong Heng: I think I understand what the commander meant… Translator Meng really is… delicate.
For them, injuries were a normal part of life.
They even saw their scars as medals of honor—something to be proud of.
Although Zhong Heng couldn’t fully understand her feelings, he still tried to help.
“Medic Chu, is there any other way to get scar-removal medicine?”
Chu Yao glanced at Meng Youyou, thought for a moment, and replied slowly:
“You’re not from around here, right? From the capital?”
“I’ve heard that some large hospitals in the capital carry imported scar-removal medicines. If you really need it, you could try contacting friends or family there.”
Meng Youyou: …I just got here. That useless system hasn’t even recovered yet. I don’t even know if I have family in the capital—how am I supposed to contact them?
She gave an awkward smile.
“My family and friends in the capital… are just ordinary people. It’s not worth troubling them over something like this.”
Chu Yao inwardly rolled her eyes.
So you do know this is a small matter.
Huo Qingshan, standing nearby, let out a faint, mocking smile.
Ordinary people? The Meng family in the capital—‘ordinary’?
Zhong Heng still didn’t give up.
“Is there any other way? Somewhere closer?”
Chu Yao thought for a moment, then suddenly brightened.
“There is one possibility. I once heard that in Nan Yu Town nearby, there’s a well-known traditional medicine clinic. They used to produce a scar-healing ointment called… something like Rui… something Pavilion.”
“It’s said the ointment is made from rare herbs and can promote blood circulation, reduce swelling, and help regenerate skin.”
Huo Qingshan’s eyes darkened slightly.
But his expression remained calm, as if none of this concerned him.
Zhong Heng immediately asked,
“What’s the clinic called? Nan Yu Town isn’t far—I can request leave tomorrow and go buy it.”
Chu Yao sighed lightly.
“I’m not completely sure. It’s been years… I think it’s called Ruizhi Pavilion?”
“But the cost of making that ointment is very high, so it’s expensive. Since most people don’t really need scar treatment, it gradually disappeared from the market.”
Zhong Heng looked disappointed—
Then suddenly thought of something.
He quickly turned to Huo Qingshan.
“Commander, aren’t you from Nan Yu Town? Didn’t you say your family has several traditional medicine practitioners? You should know something about this, right?”
But Huo Qingshan’s response was unexpectedly cold.
“I don’t know.”
His tone was indifferent.
Without another word, he turned and walked out.
Zhong Heng froze.
The commander may not smile much, but he’s never this cold…
Did Translator Meng’s scolding that day really get to him?
Otherwise, why is his attitude toward her so harsh?
Meng Youyou, of course, noticed his reaction.
She could clearly feel his prejudice against her.
Her frustration built up instantly.
What a petty man!
I wasn’t even targeting you that much!
And I even worried about your injury just now—what a waste!
Chu Yao stood there, staring at the doorway long after he had left.
A thought slowly formed in her mind.
Her instincts told her—
Even though Huo Qingshan seemed to dislike this new translator—
This woman would become the biggest obstacle to her plans.
She searched her memories.
In her previous life—
There had been no such person in the unit at this time.
This change…
Was not a good sign.
Did her rebirth cause a chain reaction?
After leaving the infirmary, Huo Qingshan went straight to his office.
After a brief moment of thought—
He picked up the phone and made a call to the capital.
Meanwhile, Meng Youyou walked down the office building corridor, growing more and more annoyed the more she thought about it.
Just now, Zhong Heng had remembered that Zhang Yong was also from Nan Yu Town, so they went to ask him about the clinic.
And guess what?
Zhang Yong said:
“Ruizhi Pavilion? It’s pretty famous in our hometown. And it’s actually run by our commander’s grandfather. ‘Ruizhi’ comes from his grandmother’s name.”
“If you want medicine, just ask Commander Huo—it’d be much easier!”
Completely oblivious to their awkward expressions, Zhang Yong continued enthusiastically:
“He’ll definitely agree!”
Then he even added an example:
“Before, one of our soldiers had severe hives. It was unbearable every autumn and winter. The commander offered to get him medicine from his grandfather—and it worked in just a few days! It never came back!”
At that point, Zhong Heng’s expression turned even more awkward.
He was just about to smooth things over—
When he noticed Meng Youyou beside him.
Her face had gone dark.
Her lips were tightly pressed.
Her eyes burned with anger.
The tension around her was impossible to ignore.
After hesitating, Zhong Heng said,
“Translator Meng, don’t misunderstand… the commander probably didn’t mean to target you. There must be some misunderstanding…”
“I don’t need an explanation. I don’t care.”
She turned and left immediately.
So that’s how it is.
You clearly know everything—but you still pretended you didn’t.
You just don’t want to help me.
Her anger burned even hotter.
Author’s Note:
The early pacing may be a bit slower. I debated whether to stack all the exciting moments upfront or stay true to my original plan and build things gradually.
In the end, I chose to follow my heart.
I believe that laying a solid foundation first and letting relationships develop naturally is the most reasonable approach.
