Chapter 10: The Younger Brother Should Be Obedient and Adorable…
The next day, Xia Mi La went to the school uniform shop to pick up her new uniform.
Tanmyung High School’s uniforms were already quite expensive, especially since theirs were custom-made editions. Tailored by hand according to individual body measurements, they fit better and enhanced one’s demeanor.
Having grown slightly taller in the first half of the year, her previous uniform had become somewhat ill-fitting.
When she stepped out of the fitting room, she noticed another person in the shop.
Jin Can stood not far away, hands in his pockets, watching her.
Xia Mi La gave him a warm, friendly smile: “Acan, you’re here to try on your uniform too.”
Jin Can hummed in acknowledgment.
“I almost forgot,” Xia Mi La curved her smiling eyes, “we’re about to become classmates soon.”
She turned toward the large floor-length mirror to adjust her uniform while asking him: “How were your grades? You’ll be in second year this time too, right?”
Her tone genuinely carried the air of an elder.
Jin Can hummed again, slowly taking two steps closer: “Second year.”
Xia Mi La watched him through the mirror, her face still wearing a gentle smile: “If you need anything at school, just come find me.”
Jin Can remained silent.
Lin Cheng Hui was very meticulous and had already taken care of Jin Can’s school enrollment and uniform matters.
Today, his uniform had been rushed to completion, and the shop assistant was bringing it out for him to try on.
“Go ahead,” Xia Mi La said.
Jin Can nodded, took the neatly folded uniform, and turned toward the fitting room.
The assistant then attended to Xia Mi La: “How does the size feel, Miss Mira? Are there any adjustments needed?”
“None,” Xia Mi La replied, “It’s good. Please wrap it up for me directly.”
“Alright.”
By the time she changed out of her uniform and came out, Jin Can had already been standing there in his uniform for a while.
Tall with a good build, and the uniform fitting him perfectly, he could easily serve as a school uniform model standing there.
“Very handsome,” Xia Mi La smiled as she walked toward him.
Reaching him, she naturally raised her hand to adjust his shirt collar.
Jin Can looked down at her.
Since arriving in Seoul, Xia Mi La had been the person who cared for him the most besides his mother.
Actually, even back in Busan, before his identity was confirmed, she had already been looking after him.
He wasn’t sure if her gentleness was like this toward everyone. Or perhaps her care for him was only because he was her fiancé’s younger brother?
…But it didn’t matter.
“What are you doing later?” he asked.
“This afternoon?” Xia Mi La answered, “Nothing much in the afternoon.”
“I still need to prepare some things before school starts, have to go shopping,” Jin Can said, “Can you come with me,” he paused, “sister-in-law?”
Xia Mi La chuckled.
Although they looked very similar, the two brothers’ personalities were completely different.
The younger brother was much more obedient and adorable.
“Sure,” she nodded, “I’ll help you.”
With Xia Mi La accompanying him, it was indeed twice as effective when it came to knowing what was popular in Seoul, or more precisely, what was trending among Tanmyung’s students.
Jin Can needed daily items, things to wear and use.
The family had prepared some for him, but they wanted to respect his preferences more and let him arrange things himself.
Xia Mi La also respected his tastes, asking about his preferred styles and taking him to corresponding shops.
As they shopped, she chatted with him about related matters.
The fashion trends, gaming topics, snacks and drinks popular among students at school…
“Is this it?” Jin Can held up the grape fruit tea in his hand and asked her, “The recent trend.”
“Not really.” Xia Mi La shook her head, “This shop has been open for a long time and isn’t as popular as before.”
Jin Can nodded without any doubt. He believed Xia Mi La must have her reasons for doing this, so he simply waited quietly for her to continue.
“I just suddenly felt like having a drink from this place,” Xia Mi La glanced at him, curling the corners of her lips, “Actually, you just need to be aware of those so-called trends. It’s fine if you don’t want to know more. Just do what you like at school. You don’t need to overthink other things.”
Jin Can looked at her and nodded, “Understood.”
“Is it tasty?” Xia Mi La shook her cup, “I quite like this one.”
“Tasty,” Jin Can replied.
“Shall we keep going?”
“Let’s go.”
Since Jin Can had asked Xia Mi La to be his advisor, he took her words seriously, listening attentively to everything she said and obediently trying on all the clothes she wanted him to.
Xia Mi La found herself enjoying a bit of the “raising simulator” and “Miracle Nikki” kind of happiness today.
“Acan looks good in anything,” she couldn’t help but praise.
She was sitting on the sofa resting when she said this.
They had visited many shops and walked quite a distance. Leaning back on the sofa, she swung her feet slightly while speaking, clearly in a good mood.
Jin Can bought all the clothes that Xia Mi La approved of, then walked up to her, “Is there anything you want? My treat.”
“Oh, really?” Xia Mi La didn’t stand on ceremony with him. She lifted her chin, casually scanned the shop, then pointed to a headband displayed in the glass cabinet, “That one.”
It was a pearl headband, entirely made of round pearls with a metal clasp at the ends. A slender black satin bow was attached near the top left side, elegant with a touch of playfulness.
Jin Can walked over, waited for the shop assistant to retrieve the headband from the glass cabinet, gently took it, and turned back.
Instead of handing the headband to Xia Mi La, he bent down and carefully helped her put it on her head.
His movements were gentle as he watched the headband nestle into her thick hair, the white pearls contrasting beautifully with her dark locks.
Xia Mi La remained still, only curving her lips into a smile after he stepped back.
“How is it?” she asked him, “Does it look good?”
Jin Can nodded, looking from the headband to her face, “It looks good.”
Xia Mi La smiled with her eyes, “Thank you.”Jin Can returned home today with a full load.”
He entered the villa followed by several drivers and servants carrying numerous shopping bags.
Jin He, who had been sitting in the living room, stood up upon seeing him and headed upstairs after greeting their mother.
Lin Cheng Hui was somewhat troubled by the distance between her two sons, but there was little she could do about it now.
“Did you have fun shopping today?” she asked Jin Can softly, “Did you find things you like?”
She wasn’t concerned about how much money Jin Can spent, only worried that he might hesitate to spend.
Glancing at all his shopping bags, she felt the situation was better than she had imagined.
“Yes,” Jin Can said, “I met sister-in-law at the school uniform shop. We went shopping together, and she told me many things about school.”
Lin Cheng Hui paused for two seconds before realizing that the “sister-in-law” he was referring to was Xia Mi La.
Then she laughed.
She felt her son was simply adorable in his obedience.
She had initially thought that Jin Can, having grown up in an orphanage, might be withdrawn and disobedient, but in reality, he was even more worry-free than Jin He.
“You went shopping with Mira,” she said with a smile. “No wonder. Mira is kind and considerate you can listen to her advice, and if there’s anything you don’t understand at school, you can go to her.”
Jin Can nodded. “Yes.”
In another room, Jin He flopped onto his bed, pulled out his phone, and scrolled through it for a bit before feeling bored. After a moment’s thought, he realized that Xia Mi La still hadn’t taken the initiative to message him today.
Indeed, their chat history had stalled on the day he told her to wear the blue dress, and she had never replied.
The image of Xia Mi La in her red dress at yesterday’s banquet surfaced in his mind… It felt strange.
He felt that Xia Mi La had been acting a bit odd lately, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on what exactly was different.
Frowning, he sat up on the bed.
After some thought, he decided to send her a message.
Jin He: I’ll pick you up on the first day of school.
It was a customary arrangement for the two of them to go to school together on the first day, so there was no need to announce it in advance.
But since their previous agreements had been broken twice, he felt he needed to confirm it again.
This time, Xia Mi La didn’t ignore him. Her reply came quickly.
Xia Mi La: Sure.
Jin He’s frown eased, and he slowly lay back down as he looked at her response.
He decided he was overthinking it Xia Mi La was still Xia Mi La. What could possibly have changed?
Meanwhile, at that very moment, on his father’s desk, a personal file had just been reviewed.
Hanlin Group’s tuition sponsorship for Pei Duo Xing was also included as part of the compensation.
Pei Duo Xing would transfer to Tanmyung High School under the title of Hanlin Scholarship Student.
Although Jin Wan Yi had recently warned his son not to see Pei Duo Xing again, that warning didn’t influence his decision for even a second.
Would attending the same high school create opportunities for them?
There was no such possibility.
Jin Wan Yi was certain it would only make Pei Duo Xing more aware of the gap between her and Jin He.
