Chapter 1
“Hey…”
“He’s alive! He’s finally alive!”
In a dazed state, Xie Shen heard cheers beside his ear. He suddenly opened his eyes.
He looked around and found himself in a dark, windowless room.
There was also another extremely thin man inside. At that moment, he wore a crazed expression and stared at Xie Shen like he had lost his mind.
What is going on?
Didn’t I already die?
Xie Shen remembered it clearly: after crossing from Earth to the cultivation world, he had carefully trained step by step all the way to the peak of the Nascent Soul stage.
Then, while trying to break through a bottleneck, he was struck by heavenly tribulation and died without a trace.
He died completely, not even leaving a body behind. The scene was still vivid in his mind.
So why… was he suddenly alive again?
“You’re awake…”
In the room.
Seeing Xie Shen wake up, the thin man slowly put away his wild expression.
He forced a smile and said kindly, “Brother, I was the one who revived you. Do you still remember your name?”
“I don’t remember. My head really hurts…” To stay cautious, Xie Shen did not answer directly. Instead, he asked, “Where is this place? You said you revived me—does that mean I was dead before?”
“You don’t know how you died?” the thin man said thoughtfully. “Then do you remember where you lived or who you knew?”
Something is wrong…
Seeing that the man only kept asking questions without giving any real information, Xie Shen became alert.
He did not answer. Instead, he quietly tried to activate his spiritual energy, hoping to use his Nascent Soul-level power to control the man.
But…
The moment he tried to circulate his energy, he realized something shocking: after being revived, his Nascent Soul cultivation had completely disappeared.
Now he was no different from an ordinary person.
“Hey! Why aren’t you talking?” the thin man asked again. “Tell me your name and where you live. I need to verify your identity and register you.”
“Register?” Xie Shen paused.
The man continued, “Yes… all revived people must be registered. Then the space station will assign you work, as well as food, water, and a place to stay.”
Space station?
Xie Shen caught two useful points from his words.
First: he was likely inside a place called a “space station.” Such a place usually exists in extreme environments like the deep sea, outer space, or polar regions where humans cannot normally survive.
Second: the place seemed to be under strict, military-like control, meaning the people here were likely affected by some kind of disaster.
Of course, all of this was only true if the man was not lying.
After thinking for a moment, Xie Shen smiled politely and said with apology, “Sorry, my head really hurts. Can I rest for a bit and get some water first? Once I recover, I’ll cooperate, alright?”
“You…”
Seeing that Xie Shen still refused to give any information, the thin man’s friendly attitude changed.
He became panicked and angry, then suddenly shouted, “Why won’t you cooperate? Why?!”
While shouting, he kept looking around the room in fear, as if afraid of something.
Not good…
Realizing danger, Xie Shen quickly stepped back.
As expected,
The next second, mechanical arms extended from the ceiling and pinned the thin man to the ground.
“I was wrong! I was wrong! Don’t shock me!”
The man trembled violently as electricity surged through his body. No matter how much he begged, it was useless.
Soon, a burnt smell filled the room, and the man stopped moving.
He was dead.
But then—
A mechanical voice echoed in the room:
“Revived person Deng Bin, born August 1, 2035, 09:13, place of birth: Southeast Asia, Chinese descent.”
Revived person?
What does that mean?
The sudden voice made Xie Shen flinch.
He quickly looked around and focused on a strange geometric pattern on the floor.
The pattern began to glow faintly.
A few seconds later, a figure slowly appeared above it, turning from transparent to solid.
It was the same thin man who had just been electrocuted to death—Deng Bin.
This unbelievable scene shocked Xie Shen deeply.
This is…
Some kind of resurrection spell that brings people back without any cost?
So… I was revived by this same method?
After seeing the full process, Xie Shen quickly understood a few things.
If he was not wrong, the spell required two conditions:
-
- A geometric pattern must be drawn on the ground.
-
- The exact personal information of the dead person must be known.
That was probably why Deng Bin kept asking him about his identity.
As for why Deng Bin was electrocuted…
Xie Shen asked, “You were shocked just now because you failed to get my identity, right?”
“Yes…” Deng Bin seemed used to being killed and revived.
He smiled slightly and said, “According to the rules, if I can’t get your identity, I get electrocuted by the tower’s machines.”
Then he added, “And after that, it’s your turn.”
“My turn?” Xie Shen frowned. “What do you mean?”
Deng Bin didn’t answer. He just looked up.
Mechanical arms extended from the ceiling again and pinned Xie Shen to the wall.
Although Xie Shen had been a Nascent Soul cultivator before, he now had no power at all. He could not resist in any way.
“Don’t blame me,” Deng Bin said as he slowly walked closer. “Everyone here goes through this.”
“Soon I’ll torture you, and you don’t need to resist too much.”
“I ask, you answer. Whatever I ask—your parents, relatives, friends, your life story—you must tell me.”
“Understood?”
Now Xie Shen finally understood Deng Bin’s purpose.
“I get it… so you want to torture me to find out my relatives and friends, then revive them here too?”
“Yes.”
Deng Bin looked eager, as if hoping to see Xie Shen break down.
He explained patiently, “The purpose of this place is to revive people and then torture them. Electric shocks, fire burns—these are daily routines. You die, get revived, then tortured again. It never ends.”
Hearing this, Xie Shen felt a chill run through his body.
What kind of place is this?
Hell?
Or some insane human experiment facility?
I need to find a way out…
