Yu Ning’s brain began to swim. She tried her best not to look at his face, not to look at those beautiful, well-defined muscles.
But he was clinging to her, holding her tightly. He felt burning hot, and even though her willpower tried to pull her gaze away, her peripheral vision kept sweeping over his smiling face…
Ling Wangjin took one of her hands and rested it against his cheek. “Ningning…”
Just like that, Yu Ning followed his lead and turned her head subconsciously, her willpower crumbling into pieces instantly.
“It’s a dream…” she started, her voice muddled, before she immediately snapped back to reality.
Ling Wangjin: “A nightmare? I’ve felt like you’ve been dreaming a lot lately.”
Ling Wangjin: “Can you tell me what you saw in your dreams?”
Yu Ning hesitated.
“Still don’t want to tell me?”
He was still smiling, but his canine teeth had retracted, and he had returned to his usual gentle expression.
Is he unhappy? Yu Ning nervously licked her lips, debating how much she should say. But then she thought about it—it was he who was doing these bad things, so why should she be the one feeling nervous and embarrassed?
With that thought, she suddenly felt justified.
Yu Ning: “I dreamed that you installed a tracking device on me.”
Ling Wangjin seemed to pause. His eyes blinked rapidly; his features didn’t change much, but his smiling face now held a look of confusion and bewilderment.
Ling Wangjin: “If I tried to defend myself now, would you believe me?”
Yu Ning didn’t take her eyes off his face. “Go ahead, tell me.”
“Can you tell me what kind of dream, or rather, what kind of situation led you to believe I would install a tracker on you?”
Yu Ning: “Back when we had that colleague dinner, how did you find me so accurately?”
Ling Wangjin: “I remember I told you how I found you at the time.”
Yu Ning didn’t quite believe it.
“Alright, alright.” He looked rather helpless. “Explanations are pale and weak. Why don’t we conduct a small experiment?”
Yu Ning hadn’t expected the topic to suddenly veer into the realm of conducting experiments.
“What do you want to do? Actually, if there’s a problem, just admitting it and correcting it would be enough.”
Ling Wangjin smiled and sighed. “Verification.”
Yu Ning: “Verification of what?”
Ling Wangjin: “Did you dream of where I installed the tracker?”
Yu Ning began to recall the details of the dream, but not only was he radiating heat, but if she wasn’t careful and looked down, she could see his wide-open shirt, and her mind would go blank.
Yu Ning irritably slapped his chest. “…Button your shirt properly, you’re breaking my train of thought!”
“No.” She glared at Ling Wangjin as he buttoned it up.
“I was able to find you not because of a tracker, but because I understand you well enough.” He smoothed out his cuffs and turned his gaze to Yu Ning.
Ling Wangjin: “Do you want to run an experiment? You can control the variables.”
Yu Ning was still a bit suspicious, but she thought it might be worth a try.
“If I’m controlling the variables, I’m not sure where you’d install a tracker. I’d have to change all my clothes and my phone… would you install a tracker in my hair or inside my body?”
Ling Wangjin laughed. “Current technology isn’t at that level, and I wouldn’t harm your body… If I installed a tracker in your dream, I would personally lean toward putting it in your phone. It can charge when your phone charges, it’s safer, and it wouldn’t threaten your health.”
Yu Ning: “So you have thought about it!”
Ling Wangjin: “…It’s just a hypothesis.”
Yu Ning was also inclined to think he would put it in her phone.
“Maybe you’d put it somewhere else? Somewhere I can’t think of? After all… you are quite smart.”
Ling Wangjin: “Thank you.”
Yu Ning: “I wasn’t complimenting you…”
“The experiment content certainly isn’t just about finding you.” He gazed at Yu Ning. “It also includes analysis. When I find you, I will tell you what I am thinking, and guess what you are thinking.”
Ling Wangjin: “Perhaps you can try to compare it with the scenarios in your dreams.”
He gently took Yu Ning’s hand and cupped her palm within his own.
Ling Wangjin: “Let’s see if your ‘dream’ is real, or if what I say is the truth.”
