Ji Yu carefully laid her down on the bed, meticulously tucking in the corners of the blanket to keep her from catching a chill.
Only after finishing everything did he return to the living room to continue arranging the plans for the next day.
The following morning, Shi Xing was awakened by faint noises outside the door. When she turned her head, the space beside her was already empty. After struggling for a while, she slowly got out of bed. Her consciousness returned bit by bit, and a dull ache gradually spread through her head.
At that moment, Ji Yu was in the living room, slightly bent over as he played with Xi Yu. A smile curved his lips as he deliberately teased the dog, making it scamper back and forth.
When Shi Xing softly called his name and jogged over to him, she complained,
“Why did you get up so early?”
Ji Yu chuckled quietly, lifting his brow slightly as he replied with vague meaning,
“I didn’t really sleep well last night.”
Shi Xing looked at him in confusion.
“Why?”
Ji Yu seemed to recall something. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he lowered his head and laughed softly.
This only confused her more.
“Just tell me.”
He cleared his throat and deliberately mimicked her drunken tone from the night before.
“Ji Yu, help me turn on the air conditioner.”
“Ji Yu, get me a glass of water.”
“Ji Yu, cover me with the blanket.”
The moment she heard this, Shi Xing’s face flushed red. She bit her lip and protested quietly,
“I wasn’t that dramatic!”
Ji Yu’s lips curved upward as he leaned closer and murmured,
“Hmm? Not that dramatic—just stole my entire blanket for the whole night.”
Embarrassed, Shi Xing clicked her tongue and threatened him half-heartedly,
“You’re not allowed to tell anyone.”
Ji Yu nodded indulgently and made an OK gesture.
After Shi Xing finished getting ready, Ji Yu had already settled everything else. He first sent Xi Yu to stay at Xie He’s place for a while, then drove straight to the airport.
Perhaps because she hadn’t been properly covered by the blanket the night before, Shi Xing kept sneezing after waking up. Her head felt increasingly heavy, and combined with mild motion sickness, she began feeling uncomfortable the moment she got into the car.
Ji Yu noticed immediately. While driving, he gestured toward the back.
“There’s motion sickness medicine and a blanket in the car. Use them first—I’ll crack the window open in a bit.”
She nodded, touched by his thoughtfulness, and asked curiously,
“Why do you have so many things in your car?”
Ji Yu recalled something and tugged at the corner of his mouth helplessly.
“Last time Xie He rode in my car, he suddenly got carsick and threw up everywhere. Completely ruined that car.”
Wrapped in the blanket, Shi Xing imagined the scene he described and couldn’t help laughing. No wonder he kept motion sickness meds in the car now—there was a reason.
Soon, Ji Yu parked in the airport’s underground lot. After completing security checks, they boarded the plane.
Shi Xing grew sleepy as soon as she sat down and drifted off. Vaguely, she heard the faint click of phone cameras around her.
By the time she woke up again, the plane had already landed in London.
Ji Yu naturally took her hand, as he always did. No matter how cold the weather, his body temperature was always warm. Shi Xing loved leaning close to him in winter—just like now.
As they held hands, warmth traveled through his palm into hers, slowly warming her fingers.
Winter in England grew dark quickly. Although it was only afternoon when they disembarked, the sky was already gray and overcast. Heavy ink-colored clouds pressed low, mist spreading through the air, casting a gloomy mood over everything.
Standing outside and looking at the unfamiliar surroundings, Shi Xing lifted her gaze and asked,
“Are we taking a car next?”
Ji Yu shook his head, sent a message on his phone, and replied calmly,
“Someone will pick us up.”
She nodded naturally. The cold wind cut against her face, making her shiver. Ji Yu immediately draped a scarf around her neck and reminded her,
“It gets windy here at night. Don’t catch a cold.”
He then reached out to check her forehead. Letting out a soft hiss, he frowned slightly.
“You really do have a fever.”
Shi Xing felt lightheaded, her throat painfully hoarse. Just as she was about to speak, a black G-Class SUV pulled up in front of them and honked a few times.
Ji Yu chuckled at the sight and turned to her.
“Get in first.”
They got into the car one after the other. Shi Xing noticed that the driver was a young man around their age, a cigarette between his lips. He seemed very familiar with Ji Yu, and the two immediately started chatting.
When the driver glanced at Shi Xing, he paused slightly and asked Ji Yu tentatively,
“Your girlfriend?”
Ji Yu nodded lightly, lowering his gaze as he replied casually,
“Didn’t I mention it before?”
“I thought you were joking. Turns out you were serious.”
The man shot Shi Xing a sideways glance, a trace of disdain in his eyes.
Ji Yu was busy replying to messages and didn’t notice the expression, but he still reminded him,
“Don’t drive too fast. She gets carsick.”
The man scoffed teasingly.
“Your girlfriend’s pretty delicate.”
Though said half-jokingly, it made Shi Xing uncomfortable.
Ji Yu shot him a cold look and said sternly,
“Focus on driving. Watch your mouth.”
Realizing Ji Yu was genuinely annoyed, Li Xunan coughed lightly and stepped on the accelerator, driving off.
The awkward moment passed quickly. Soon, Li Xunan began chatting with Ji Yu about other things. From their conversation, Shi Xing gathered that they had known each other since childhood.
Midway through, Li Xunan casually mentioned,
“Xinyuan’s coming over for dinner tonight too.”
Ji Yu paused. His brows knit together, irritation surfacing.
“What’s she coming for?”
“She’s basically half your parents’ goddaughter. Obviously they invited her,” Li Xunan replied vaguely, glancing at Shi Xing as he spoke.
Shi Xing turned to look out the window. Hearing their conversation, her heart tightened, and her fingers curled unconsciously.
She remained mostly silent until they arrived.
When the car pulled up to Ji Yu’s home, the first thing she saw was a private villa surrounded by tall fencing. Ornate hollow-carved gates and marble-clad walls exuded luxury and prestige at every corner.
As soon as the car stopped, Shi Xing got out on her own. Ji Yu froze for a moment before following after her.
Although the servants were busy inside, they still greeted them respectfully upon seeing them.
Lin Jue was seated on the sofa. She was impeccably well-maintained—back straight, hair carefully styled into elegant curls pinned up to reveal her pale neck. Just sitting there, she radiated grace and nobility.
Hearing the movement, she didn’t look up but spoke calmly,
“You’re back.”
Sitting beside her was a young woman with exquisite makeup. When she saw Ji Yu, joy flickered in her eyes—but the moment her gaze shifted to Shi Xing, her expression subtly changed.
Shi Xing didn’t notice. She only felt unbearably warm, her throat aching. After greeting Lin Jue with Ji Yu, she tugged lightly at his sleeve and whispered,
“Are we eating right away?”
Ji Yu pressed his lips together and glanced toward the kitchen before shaking his head.
“It’ll take a while. I’ll take you to rest first.”
She immediately agreed. After the long flight, car ride, and fever, she was completely drained.
Ji Yu led her into the elevator and up to a room at the corner of the third floor. The moment Shi Xing stepped inside, she knew it was his bedroom—the decor was nearly identical to the one in his Beijing apartment.
He immediately began rummaging through drawers. Sitting on his bed, Shi Xing felt drowsy. Soon, he pulled out a thermometer and took her temperature.
When the time was up, he checked it—it confirmed a fever. He handed her fever medicine and warm water and instructed,
“Take this and sleep for a while. If your fever doesn’t go down, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
She nodded, swallowed the medicine, and drank the water. Ji Yu seemed to want to say more, but seeing her condition, he simply tightened his lips and left her with,
“Get some rest.”
After taking care of her, Ji Yu went downstairs and found Xu Xinyuan standing nearby—clearly waiting for him.
He looked her up and down and asked flatly,
“What is it?”
Xu Xinyuan frowned, clearly unhappy with his attitude.
“We barely see each other. This is how you act?”
Ji Yu’s eyes turned cold as he pressed his lips together. Just as he was about to respond, a loud voice interrupted them.
Ji Minghao walked in from the entrance, his voice booming before he even arrived.
“You brat! Xinyuan finally gets to see you, and you’re acting tough?”
Ji Yu shot him a cold glance and replied indifferently,
“If you care so much, you can entertain her yourself.”
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Ji Minghao and Xu Xinyuan stunned in place.
Stepping outside to get some air, Ji Yu happened upon Lin Jue sitting in a rocking chair, sipping tea. She glanced at him lightly and asked,
“Argued with your father again?”
Ji Yu rubbed his brow helplessly and asked bluntly,
“So what exactly did you call me back here for this time?”
