“Xixi, what’s wrong?” Song Xu asked as Lin Xi walked in, looking rather uncomfortable.
The clerk’s eyes sparkled. Wow, this beauty must be the girlfriend of the “extra-large size” customer. What a stunning couple.
Pharmacy restrooms weren’t typically open to the public, but beauties always seemed to receive special treatment. The clerk couldn’t bring herself to refuse and pointed toward the back. “Go through there.”
“Thank you!” Lin Xi pulled Song Xu along and hurried toward the restroom.
“Wait for me outside.” Lin Xi took the sunglasses off Song Xu’s shirt, put them on herself, and ducked inside.
A thought suddenly occurred to Song Xu, and he knocked on the door. “Xixi, are you hurt? Are you bleeding?”
When Lin Xi saw a dark stain on her underwear, her heart, which had been in a state of constant unrest, finally settled. Thank goodness, no pills needed. Hearing Song Xu’s question, she replied, “I’m not hurt. My period just started. Song Xu, could you help me buy a pack of sanitary pads?”
She wasn’t sure if he would be willing, so she felt uneasy. If he refused, she’d have no choice but to make do with toilet paper.
“Your period started?” There was a note of genuine delight in Song Xu’s voice. “That’s great! I’ll go buy them for you right now. Just wait a moment.”
He remembered seeing them in the pharmacy aisles. Song Xu walked back out and asked the clerk, “Excuse me, do you have sanitary pads?”
“Yes, we do.” The clerk handed him the most expensive pack.
“Thanks. How much for everything? I’ll scan to pay.” Song Xu took out his phone, waiting for the total.
“The three items come to 358,” the clerk said. She then held up the emergency contraceptive pill and asked, “Do you still need this?”
Before the clerk had even finished asking, Song Xu had already paid. “I don’t need the medicine anymore. Just bag up the rest.”
“But you’ve already paid for it,” the clerk said, frowning. Processing a refund would be a hassle.
“Yeah,” Song Xu said, anxious to get the pads back to Lin Xi. “Just toss the medicine.”
He walked briskly back to the restroom door and knocked. “Xixi, open up. I’ve got them.”
Lin Xi opened the door and took the package. Two minutes later, she emerged looking relaxed. She took the sunglasses off and put them back onto Song Xu’s face. “Thanks, handsome!”
Song Xu leaned down and kissed her lips. “Is this the first time you’ve truly welcomed your period?”
Lin Xi laughed and nodded. “I can finally get a few days of rest.”
The smile faded from Song Xu’s face, and his mood plummeted to rock bottom. Oh no. Withdrawal symptoms are starting.
Song Xu walked out of the pharmacy, holding Lin Xi’s hand in one and the bag of condoms in the other. Back in the car, Lin Xi looked at the six full boxes and felt speechless. “Isn’t this a bit much?”
“It’s not for one day,” Song Xu explained. “There are six in a box. That’s a week’s supply.”
Lin Xi wanted to thank him for at least having the foresight to leave one day for rest.
“One box per week, and that’s it,” she glared at him. Is he going to spend all day doing this, or does he have other plans?
Song Xu didn’t argue, though he was already mentally calculating whether he could find thirty-count boxes online.
When they arrived at the Song family estate, Song Chen had already arrived.
“Auntie Xu, Uncle Song, Brother Chen.” Lin Xi greeted them one by one.
Song Qingshi and Song Chen nodded with smiles, while Xu Wantang grabbed Lin Xi’s hand warmly. “Xixi, come sit over here. You and Song Xu have finally made up.”
Lin Xi felt a bit awkward. “We… we didn’t really do anything.”
“No need to lie to me,” Xu Wantang said with a giggle. “Xiao Xu’s face looked terrible those two days—like he was owed two million by everyone he met. And he wouldn’t leave even when he was told to.”
“These last two days have been different. I can’t even find him when I call. Who knows what he’s been so busy with.”
Lin Xi felt the heat creep from her neck all the way to her face. She knew exactly what Song Xu had been busy with—some things were better left unsaid.
Seeing Lin Xi’s reaction, Xu Wantang glanced at Song Xu and winked, as if asking, So, you finally scored?
Song Xu couldn’t hide his satisfaction. He cleared his throat twice. “Xixi and I have been secretly working on a project these past two days. We didn’t want any interruptions, so we turned our phones off.”
Hearing his excuse, Lin Xi turned even redder, wishing she could find a hole to crawl into.
Xu Wantang didn’t press further. She knew the girl was shy and didn’t want to embarrass her into anger. She stood up with a smile. “You two chat while I go check on the food in the kitchen.”
“Auntie Xu, I’ll come help you.” Lin Xi felt awkward sitting there.
“No need,” Xu Wantang patted her hand. “I’ll be back in a flash. Let Song Xu keep you company.”
Having been through it all herself, Xu Wantang could see that Lin Xi looked exhausted. That brat had clearly been putting the poor girl through the ringer these past two days—he was exactly like his father.
As soon as Xu Wantang left, Song Xu leaned in close, pulling Lin Xi into his arms. He couldn’t resist stroking her hands and kissing her cheeks. Song Qingshi and Song Chen, unable to watch the public display of affection, headed upstairs to the study, leaving the space to the young couple.
Lin Xi felt even more self-conscious. She nudged him away. “Can you move further away?”
“I’m glad they knew when to leave,” Song Xu whispered, leaning in even closer. “We’re a real couple now—there’s nothing wrong with us being intimate.”
Lin Xi couldn’t stop him, so she could only let him hold her. Her phone suddenly vibrated. She picked it up to see a message from Jiang Ran.
When she opened it, she was stunned to find it was about Xiao Yang.
【Xixi, explosive news! Xiao Yang was arrested and taken to the police station.】
So, Song Xu really did turn him in. She glanced over at Song Xu, then asked, “How long will he be sentenced for?”
Song Xu looked at her phone screen, a hint of ruthlessness flashing in his eyes. “His parents have a few connections, so it’ll have to go by the book.”
Lin Xi nodded and replied to Jiang Ran: 【Got it!】
Jiang Ran quickly sent another message: 【Aren’t you curious about why? He’s suspected of kidnapping and attempted date rape of a minor.】
Lin Xi replied with a simple “Oh.”
Jiang Ran then sent two long messages: 【I know you don’t have any affection for him, but he was our class monitor for three years! We should at least show some concern, right? The classmates are all trying to find a way to help. They don’t believe Xiao Yang could do something like that—he must have been framed.】
【His parents are going crazy trying to find connections to get him out. I’m thinking about whether I should help. What do you think, Xixi? Give me some advice.】
After reading the messages, Lin Xi let out a long sigh. If this hadn’t happened to her, she might have believed he was innocent too.
She deliberated for a moment before deciding to tell Jiang Ran the truth.
【Ran Ran, I really don’t want you to save him.】
Jiang Ran: 【Why?】
Lin Xi: 【Because the one he tried to kidnap and drug was me!】
