From that day onward, Gu Nansheng made sure she appeared on Lu Shijing’s WeChat every single day without fail.
From morning until night, she flooded him with messages tirelessly.
Most of them looked something like this:
“What are you doing right now?”
“Do you have class today?”
“What did you eat for lunch?”
“What are you having for dinner?”
“The clouds today are so white~”
“The sweet and sour ribs in the cafeteria were delicious today~”
She became a constant presence in his phone.
Whenever Lu Shijing had free time, he would occasionally reply with a short response. The moment Gu Nansheng received even a single message from him, she would instantly bombard him with another wave of texts, causing his phone to vibrate nonstop.
Sometimes, Lu Shijing genuinely did not know whether to laugh or feel helpless toward her endless enthusiasm.
She always seemed to have an unlimited supply of new ideas.
Her Moments feed was packed with food photos, travel updates, selfies, and random little snippets from her daily life. Every time he unlocked his phone, her figure inevitably appeared somewhere on the screen.
After chatting online for two weeks straight, Gu Nansheng finally found the perfect opportunity.
One Saturday, Lu Shijing casually mentioned that he would be studying in the university library that evening.
The moment she saw the message, Gu Nansheng immediately decided to “accidentally” run into him at S University.
Did he really think she would be satisfied with an online romance forever?
Absolutely impossible.
Waiting passively was never her style.
Taking the initiative was clearly the smarter choice.
She dressed especially carefully that day.
Her hair was tied into a high ponytail, paired with a perfectly crafted “natural makeup” look that appeared effortless while secretly requiring tremendous effort. Every eyelash was curled flawlessly, while the shimmering lip gloss on her lips made them look irresistibly soft and glossy.
After agonizing over her outfit for ages, she finally settled on a fitted short romper with a high waistline that made her already long legs appear even longer.
Standing before the mirror, Gu Nansheng checked herself repeatedly.
She was determined to leave a stunning impression during their second meeting.
The university library was especially quiet on weekends.
To Gu Nansheng, it felt like the perfect place for a secret rendezvous.
Using the library access card Lin Manqing had secretly given her, she quietly slipped inside.
She had even worn flat shoes on purpose to avoid making too much noise while walking.
As expected, the library was nearly empty.
It did not take long for her to spot Lu Shijing sitting beside a window.
Tonight, he wore a black denim jacket. His head was lowered as his slender fingers slowly turned the pages of a book while comparing notes beside him.
The moment she saw him, her heartbeat immediately sped up.
After taking several deep breaths to calm herself, she quietly walked over and pulled out the chair directly across from him.
Only when her shadow fell across the pages did Lu Shijing finally notice someone standing there.
He slowly lifted his head.
Under his visibly startled gaze, Gu Nansheng calmly sat down opposite him.
Resting her chin against her hands, she smiled brightly before winking at him playfully.
“Good evening~”
Lu Shijing stared at her in complete surprise.
Gu Nansheng was extremely satisfied with his reaction.
She reached across the table, stole the pen from his hand, and wrote a sentence in his notebook.
Were you surprised?
Lu Shijing finally recovered from his daze.
Looking down at the words, he gave a small nod before taking the pen back from her.
Their fingertips brushed lightly against each other.
His fingers felt slightly cool.
He wrote neatly beneath her sentence.
How did you get in here?
His handwriting was just like him, elegant, clean, and orderly.
Gu Nansheng immediately wrote another sentence.
I wanted to see you.
The moment Lu Shijing read those words, the tips of his ears quietly turned red.
She really was unbelievably straightforward.
Then she added another line.
Did you really think I only wanted an online relationship?
Lu Shijing looked up at her eyes.
They were bright and shimmering like pools of water.
Of course he knew what she wanted.
Every day, she filled his WeChat with food photos, selfies, random jokes, and outrageously direct flirting.
How could he not understand her intentions?
He simply had not expected her to suddenly appear in front of him like this.
After a moment, he wrote another sentence.
Want to go for a walk outside?
Gu Nansheng immediately nodded happily.
That was exactly what she wanted.
The night scenery at S University was beautiful.
Although she had visited the campus many times before, tonight somehow felt completely different.
Lu Shijing walked beside her quietly on her left side.
A faint rose fragrance drifted from her body, sweet and subtle, lingering around him with a touch of temptation.
Neither of them spoke.
They simply walked together beneath the night sky.
Gu Nansheng secretly stared at the hand hanging casually by his side.
Could she hold it?
At the very least, she did not want tonight to end without making some progress.
Lu Shijing was tall enough that he could easily notice her gaze lingering on his hand repeatedly.
Could she possibly be thinking about holding it?
The thought created a faint ripple in his chest.
He suddenly stopped walking and looked at her deliberately.
“What’s wrong?”
Then, after a slight pause, he softly added two words.
“Sister?”
Gu Nansheng felt as though she had been struck directly in the heart.
In her twenty-three years of life, no man had ever successfully flirted with her before.
Plenty of men had pursued her. Handsome men, wealthy men, charming men.
But she had never truly felt anything for any of them.
Even though she was the one constantly flirting with Lu Shijing first, hearing him softly call her “Sister” in that low, pleasant voice instantly made her face burn bright red.
That was completely unfair.
How was she supposed to survive this?
She was only falling harder and harder for him.
Seeing her suddenly speechless and shy, Lu Shijing chuckled quietly.
“I thought you were supposed to be very fierce, Sister.”
Her competitive spirit immediately flared up.
What did he mean by that?
She was only embarrassed because the way he called her “Sister” sounded ridiculously gentle and affectionate.
“Of course this sister is fierce,” she shot back immediately. “Do you want to test it for yourself?”
Her eyes sparkled brilliantly beneath the streetlights, the slight upward tilt of her gaze making her look dangerously captivating.
Lu Shijing looked at her calmly, amusement flickering faintly in his eyes as though he did not believe her at all.
Feeling challenged, Gu Nansheng suddenly stepped forward.
Without hesitation, she grabbed his hand and tightly intertwined their fingers.
“You’re not allowed to shake me off,” she declared confidently while pulling him forward.
Her hand was soft and slender, but her grip was unexpectedly firm.
It was the first time a girl had ever held his hand like this.
After a while, Lu Shijing realized that her palm was slightly damp with nervous sweat.
So this fierce older sister was actually just bluffing.
The night wind by the lake grew stronger.
Her skirt fluttered upward slightly from the breeze, making her panic as she hurried to hold it down with one hand.
At that moment, she deeply regretted wearing such a short outfit.
Lu Shijing quietly looked away before casually removing his denim jacket and draping it over her shoulders.
The oversized jacket covered her almost completely.
It carried a fresh scent of clean laundry detergent.
“It’s cold,” he said softly. “Wear it properly.”
Gu Nansheng instantly felt as though happiness was overflowing inside her chest.
Even if she froze to death tonight, she felt it would still be worth it.
Suddenly, she burst into laughter.
Lu Shijing lowered his eyes toward her in confusion.
“What are you laughing at?”
Her beautiful lips curved upward brightly.
“There’s an old saying,” she declared cheerfully, “To die beneath a peony flower is to die without regrets.”
Lu Shijing was completely amused by her nonsense.
He lightly tapped the top of her head.
“What exactly goes on inside your head all day, Sister?”
Gu Nansheng immediately grabbed his hand again and turned to face him seriously.
“This sister spends every single day thinking about you.”
At that moment, Lu Shijing had only one thought in his mind.
This older sister really knew how to flirt.
