“What else could it be? That little wretch must’ve used some trick. Even though I drugged her, she still managed to escape. She was just lucky.
Your father said the deputy factory director is no longer willing to help. As long as we trick her into handing over her job, we’ll register her for going down to the countryside.”
Liu Jiaojiao nodded heavily. “Mom, then let’s send her to the Northwest. Let her go to the harshest, most exhausting place to work. How dare she hit you and Dad.”
The mother and daughter were talking when Liu Wei came in.
“Why are you still in your mother’s arms? Go back to your own room—what kind of behavior is that? You’re already a big girl.”
Liu Jiaojiao blinked playfully at Liu Wei, acting spoiled.
“Dad! It’s not that I don’t want to go back to my room, it’s that that little wretch won’t let me go back.
I don’t care! I’m sleeping with Mom today. You go sleep with your son instead.”
Liu Wei didn’t want to sleep with his mischievous son either—the kid tossed and turned all night.
“No. Go back to your room.”
Liu Jiaojiao pouted. “I can’t even open the door. Why don’t you go? Yunxi said just now that if I dare go back to the room, she’ll strangle me in my sleep. Do you want your precious daughter dead?”
Liu Wei had no choice. “Fine. You can sleep here.”
After saying that, he turned and went to sleep in Liu Yao’s room instead.
Yun Xi had a good night’s sleep and woke up early the next morning. After washing up, she searched through her clothes.
They either had holes or were patched over patch—these were all patches the original owner had sewn herself.
In Liu Jiaojiao’s trunk, she found a relatively decent outfit and put it on.
When she went out, Liu Jiaojiao saw her and could only look at her mother Zhao Mei with grievance.
Zhao Mei comforted her. “Just let her wear it. It’s nothing valuable. Once you get a formal job and start earning wages, you can buy whatever you want.”
Liu Jiaojiao thought about it and agreed.
As soon as Yun Xi left the courtyard, she saw a delinquent leaning lazily against a crooked tree outside, whistling.
Looking at him, she matched him to a character from the novel—he should be Liu Jiaojiao’s boyfriend.
In the original story, Liu Jiaojiao had indeed stolen the original owner’s job under a false identity, and later broke up with this delinquent.
The delinquent later caused trouble at the factory out of anger, and Liu Jiaojiao lost her job and had no choice but to go to the countryside, where she met the female protagonist.
Yun Xi ignored him and headed toward the meeting point with Wu Xiangxiang.
She had already made her plan: she would make sure this pair ended up locked together.
At the agreed location with Wu Xiangxiang, the two quickly completed the job transfer at the factory, and Yun Xi received 1,000 yuan.
She threw the 1,000 yuan into her space.
After returning home, Liu Wei had taken the day off and placed 1,500 yuan in an envelope on the table.
When Yun Xi came back, Liu Wei waved her over.
“Come here. This is the 1,500 yuan you wanted.
Later you’ll sign the job transfer to your sister. Don’t spend the money recklessly—save it. Your father will help you after you get married.”
Yun Xi stepped forward and snatched the envelope, counting it. It was indeed 1,500 yuan, so she nodded.
“I’ll sign it tomorrow night. My wrist hurts.”
Liu Wei frowned. “Why can’t you sign it now?”
Liu Jiaojiao also became anxious. “Exactly! You already took the money, why aren’t you signing?
Are you trying to pocket it and refuse to transfer the job to me?”
Yun Xi shook her head.
“I finally got this job, I haven’t even warmed it up yet and I’m already handing it over to you.
Can’t I enjoy it for another day? Besides, there are still about half a month before you can officially start working. Why are you in such a hurry?”
Zhao Mei nodded from the side. “Fine, tomorrow it is.”
Yun Xi returned to her room.
Liu Wei turned to Zhao Mei. “Why did you agree to tomorrow? Who knows what she’s planning?
Maybe she doesn’t want to go to the countryside and also doesn’t want to give up the job.”
Zhao Mei shook her head. “She can’t avoid it. Just one day won’t cause any problems.”
As they were talking, Liu Yao said to Zhao Mei, “Mom, I want White Rabbit candies. The neighbor’s kid got them. I want them too.”
Zhao Mei looked at her chubby son with affection. “Alright, Mom will take you to buy them.”
Liu Jiaojiao pouted. Her mother only spoiled her precious son—she wouldn’t even buy her a new dress, but would buy anything for him.
Meanwhile, Yun Xi was thinking in her room, carefully recalling the original novel’s plot. Some of the gold and jewelry were hidden in the backyard.
Even Liu Wei didn’t know about those treasures.
The rest were in the attic—a hidden chamber left behind by the original owner’s maternal grandfather.
Liu Wei had once sworn in front of the grandfather that he would leave all the property to Yun Xi.
He also promised not to remarry until Yun Xi became an adult. But as soon as the grandfather died, he brought his mistress home.
Liu Jiaojiao was four years older than the original owner, and anyone could see they were father and daughter—the resemblance was striking.
Because of that resemblance, Liu Wei showed her some favoritism.
Outside the room, Liu Jiaojiao was thinking about the 1,500 yuan in Yun Xi’s hands and felt increasingly restless.
While Yun Xi went to the bathroom, she rummaged through the room but couldn’t find the money.
She also knew that even if she found it, she couldn’t take it yet—they still needed the job transfer completed first.
After using the bathroom, Yun Xi decided to take a walk, thinking she might as well enjoy the scenery while she still could.
As she walked, she ran into Wang Hao.
Wang Hao looked at her with obvious disgust. “We already broke off the engagement. Are you still trying to cling to me?”
Yun Xi rolled her eyes hard. “So unlucky. Stepped in dog crap going out.”
Wang Hao didn’t understand what she meant, but assumed she had hit the mark and was just embarrassed.
He snorted. “I look down on you. Don’t ever appear in front of me again.”
Yun Xi felt her fists harden.
She stepped forward and punched Wang Hao left and right.
“I’ll let you talk with that mouth of yours—either spitting filth or being disgusting!”
Blood dripped from Wang Hao’s nose and mouth as he lay on the ground, staring blankly at her.
Yun Xi put her hands on her hips and sneered.
“Where did this overconfident idiot come from? Don’t ever show your face in front of me again. If you see me, take a detour.
Don’t even have a mirror? At least pee and look at yourself—ugly as an old cabbage, not even as tall as a scallion, yet so full of confidence.”
After saying that, she walked away.
Wang Hao held his injured face, his heart suddenly pounding uncontrollably as he watched her leave.
Yun Xi didn’t know that behind her, he was already imagining things, thinking about how it might not be so bad to marry her.
If she had known, she would have turned back and beaten him again.
Wang Hao sat on the ground shaking his head, cursing her as a shrew, then slowly got up and limped home.
When Wang Cuihua learned her son had been beaten, she immediately dragged him toward the Liu family.
She was determined to tear Yun Xi’s mouth apart—what kind of thing was she, daring to bully her precious son.
