“Luxury goods… I never even dared to imagine that back then,” An Muning said, rubbing his hands together. “Go pick out some clothes. There aren’t any zombies in this mall.”
To prevent some clueless zombie from messing up the goods in the mall, he had specifically done a bit of “clean-up work.”
Fan Ningyue looked at the mall directory.
First of all, she definitely needed to pick out underwear and undergarments, then the rest of her clothes.
She lowered her head again.
Surrounded by rows of dazzling clothes, it was almost overwhelming. Looking at the black outfit she was currently wearing, she couldn’t help but feel that An Muning’s sense of style was truly terrible—just like his strangely abnormal aesthetic in general.
What kind of normal person keeps muttering things like, “I wish I could be eaten by a beautiful female zombie”?
She muttered to herself as she went off to pick underwear, while An Muning sat on a bench with his arms crossed.
“Why isn’t there a beautiful female zombie in this world…” he murmured in regret.
He hadn’t thought about it that often in the past, but ever since he treated Fan Ningyue’s wounds, that thought had grown wildly in his mind.
If only a whole group of them could come, and he could be torn apart and devoured—he would be willing.
Unfortunately, all zombies eventually dried out, turning into nothing but skin and bones.
Even evolved zombies looked bizarre—each one uglier than the last, as if they were competing to see who could twist their appearance the most. It was unbearable to look at.
“An Muning?”
His thoughts were interrupted by Fan Ningyue’s voice.
She had changed extremely quickly.
A white thin shirt paired with black athletic pants, and over it, An Muning’s black windbreaker.
“Other than being a bit hard to keep clean, it’s a decent outfit,” An Muning nodded calmly. “Very practical for fighting.”
Fan Ningyue’s mouth twitched.
In a normal situation, when someone sees a girl dressed like this in a completely safe environment, shouldn’t they at least brighten up and compliment her?
But then again, there was no need to pick overly fancy clothes. What she chose was simple and clean.
“Let’s go,” An Muning said, walking toward the escalator going up. “Let’s find something to eat.”
“The supermarket is downstairs.”
“Why go to the supermarket?” he asked without turning back.
“Self-heating hotpot, instant noodles—they should be downstairs.”
“It’s been eleven years. Even if those things were convenient, they can’t be eaten anymore,” An Muning said, shaking his finger. “I’ll get you something better.”
On the seventh floor, the dried blood on the ground was almost unrecognizable. The two walked all the way to the central food court.
Fan Ningyue frowned. “There’s still gas here?”
“…There’s fire-type abilities,” An Muning sighed.
“Then what are we eating?”
“Something you’ve never had before. Sit here and wait.”
With that, he casually picked a restaurant and walked inside.
Soon, the sound of flames coming from the kitchen could be heard.
This guy even has oil?
Fan Ningyue listened in surprise.
This place had fallen at the very beginning of the apocalypse and had been abandoned for eleven years. Him being able to start a fire with his ability wasn’t strange at all. Growing vegetables over eleven years wouldn’t be strange either—but where did he get cooking oil?
Having been enemies for nearly eight years, she knew him too well. He definitely wasn’t the type with the patience to extract oil himself.
Did he take it from human settlements?
“Here we go,” An Muning said, walking out with a plate. “You’ve probably already gotten tired of fine dining in human settlements. Try this—civilian-style spicy stir-fry.”
Fan Ningyue leaned in and sniffed. “It smells amazing.”
An unknown spicy sauce, along with a richly colored stir-fry, gave off an intense aroma that made one’s mouth water.
“Most of it was grown by me.”
“Where did this meat come from?” Fan Ningyue asked, picking up a strange-looking piece.
“Zombie meat,” An Muning said, arms crossed. “Don’t worry, it’s edible.”
Fan Ningyue’s face instantly turned green, as if she were about to vomit. “You eat zombie meat?!”
“Of course. Shouldn’t human settlements already be doing that?” An Muning raised an eyebrow. “It’s been eleven years. Recovery takes time. Do you think everyone can still eat chicken, duck, and fish? The upper class and ability users get normal meat, while ordinary people naturally eat zombie meat.”
Fan Ningyue puffed out her cheeks.
She had never even dreamed of something like that.
“Ha,” seeing that his effect worked, An Muning chuckled. “Just kidding. It’s not zombie meat—it’s rabbit meat I found in the wild.”
Fan Ningyue stared at him silently.
Honestly, she didn’t really trust him.
“I’m serious. I’ll eat it to prove it,” An Muning said, leaning forward. He took the piece from her chopsticks, chewed twice, and swallowed it. “My dissection skills might be average… but this rabbit meat really is good. Your loss.”
Fan Ningyue froze for two seconds, staring blankly at her empty chopsticks, then at An Muning whose mouth still had a bit of oil on it.
Her face immediately turned bright red.
“You—you—you…” she stammered, pointing at him.
“What?” An Muning raised an eyebrow. “You haven’t even eaten yet.”
Fan Ningyue paused.
…That was true.
She shoved the chopsticks into his hand, then picked up another pair. “You can’t just eat from someone else’s chopsticks like that.”
“I was just verifying it for you,” An Muning said carelessly, waving it off. “Why are you getting shy? You’re not a zombie.”
Fan Ningyue: “……”
That single sentence shut down all her emotions at once.
“I told you your aesthetics are weird, but you just won’t believe it,” Fan Ningyue said, the corner of her mouth twitching.
“It’s your aesthetics that are weird,” An Muning retorted.
How could his aesthetics possibly be wrong?
What a joke.
This was forged through eight years of the apocalypse.
“My aesthetics are fine. The day I got injured and came here, there were zombies everywhere below, and above it was raining with a hazy fog. You stood at the entrance and said the scenery was nice,” Fan Ningyue took a deep breath. “Also, normal people in this world don’t constantly think about when they’ll be eaten by a beautiful female zombie.”
“So people don’t do that…?” An Muning said, genuinely surprised.
“Of course they don’t.” Fan Ningyue’s face darkened.
She realized this guy didn’t just have strange aesthetics—his worldview itself was fundamentally different from that of normal humans.
“Are you actually a zombie or something?” she asked suspiciously.
“If I were a zombie, you’d be eating human meat right now,” he replied calmly.
Fan Ningyue took a deep breath.
She couldn’t talk to him anymore.
If this continued, she’d be the one vomiting.
“By the way, the meat and vegetables here are all pretty normal,” Fan Ningyue said, poking at the rice in her bowl. “Where did you even get the rice?”
“Rice doesn’t spoil. I just stored it in my space,” An Muning shrugged.
“If you could store rice in space, why didn’t you think of storing vegetables too?”
“At that time, my ability hadn’t awakened storage space yet. The vegetables and meat had already gone bad.”
“…Fair enough.” Fan Ningyue nodded. “But why didn’t you try planting rice or something yourself?”
“I don’t know how.”
Honest.
Fan Ningyue nodded.
This guy really was as honest as ever.
“So this is how you’ve been living these past three years?” she raised an eyebrow.
“Correct,” An Muning nodded. “It’s all zombies here anyway, no people. No scheming or backstabbing. Pretty nice.”
“…But there’s no one to talk to.”
“I got used to it,” An Muning scoffed lightly. “Besides, isn’t there someone now?”
