Seeing that the luggage was almost burying Su Fu, Li Mingyu felt a pang of pity.
“Susu, aren’t you tired?”
Su Fu tried to peek her head out: “I’m not tired, I’ll be fine once I get on the bus. You don’t need to feel bad about it, after all, you gave me two hundred yuan.”
It’s only right to do things for money.
Li Mingyu had a different opinion: “But we are friends…”
Su Fu: “Let’s keep things separate. You have to think about it. If I work in the fields, I won’t be able to save two hundred yuan in three years.”
She really didn’t feel any hardship; being able to meet Li Mingyu was already a stroke of good luck for Su Yi.
Li Mingyu is a very proud person. Her family is exceptionally well-off, and she has heard more flattery than eaten food since she was a child.
This was the first time she had heard such a statement; anyone else would have thought…
“We’re friends, what’s wrong with you helping me out?”
“Anyway, your family is so well-off, it’s just a matter of asking.”
‘They’re just giving me handouts; is this some money even enough to feed a dog?’
There are many, many similar incidents, and this is just the tip of the iceberg of what she overheard people talking about her behind her back.
There are probably thousands more icebergs in places we can’t hear or see.
She doesn’t hate being taken advantage of, but she hates people who say one thing to your face and another behind your back.
Su Fu blocked her way with her large back: “My good thighs, if you go any further you’ll fall into the ditch.”
Li Mingyu snapped out of her daze and flashed a bright smile.
“Susu, you will definitely have a good life in the future.”
The sunlight wasn’t too harsh yet, and it seemed to coat Li Mingyu’s face with a layer of light.
Su Fu was stunned, and she licked away non-existent drool from the corner of her mouth.
“Of course, after all, I’ve worked really hard, okay?”
The two continued walking towards town, and bought two meat buns when they passed a state-run restaurant.
Su Fu glanced at the watch on Li Mingyu’s wrist, stuffed the steamed bun into her mouth in two bites, picked up her luggage, and ran off.
“Hurry, or we’ll miss the bus.”
Li Mingyu followed instinctively, but before she could swallow the bun in her mouth, she choked half to death.
Fortunately, they made it in time. Su Fu let her good friend get on the bus first to reserve a seat.
“Master, master, please open the door down here, I have too much luggage to go up.”
After putting her luggage away, Su Fu got into the car and sat next to Li Mingyu.
“If we miss this bus, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow.”
Li Mingyu wasn’t quite sure about this; it seemed that when she came to the countryside, the brigade leader picked her up from the city.
“I remember you have to take a bus to get to the city, right?”
Su Fu snapped her fingers: “You’re right, the train only comes from the next city.”
After she finished speaking, she opened the car window a little bit and thoughtfully switched seats with Li Mingyu.
“Sit inside and lean against me for a while, I’ll wake you up when it’s time.”
Li Mingyu didn’t stand on ceremony with her. After changing seats, she leaned against Su Fu and looked out the window.
The car started slowly, kicking up a lot of yellow mud and dust.
Su Fu: …quickly closed the window, then took out a handkerchief to wipe her face and thigh.
Li Mingyu laughed: “Dust rises and falls uncontrollably, and all living things blow against each other.”
Su Fu asked, “Whose poem is this?”
Li Mingyu: “Wang Anshi’s.”
Su Fu knew him: “The one who wrote ‘The spring breeze turns the south bank of the Yangtze River green again’?”
Li Mingyu: “That’s right, Su Su, how are your grades?”
Well, Su Fu still told the truth: “Generally speaking, when I was in high school, there were 38 people in my class, and I always scored 36.”
Fearing misunderstanding, she added, “It’s thirty-sixth place, not thirty-six points.”
Li Mingyu probably realized: “You’re good at some subjects but not others, right?”
Su Fu sighed, “Yes, I can’t understand math anything except money.”
Li Mingyu asked softly, “Do you need tutoring? I can help you.”
Su Fu didn’t really need it; she felt that math was harder than making money.
“No need. After I earn this money from you, I’ll work hard and be able to buy a job. Then I’ll have a secure job too.”
To be honest, what she wanted most was a job at the supply and marketing cooperative.
That job was simple and easy, and the pay and benefits were quite good.
Unfortunately, those jobs are ridiculously expensive, and nobody wants to sell them.
The drive from the town to the city takes about three hours, and the time passed quickly as the two chatted.
After getting off the train, they bought two tickets to the next city. Li Mingyu slept the whole way this time.
By the time we arrived in the neighboring city, it was already evening.
Su Fu hoisted all her luggage onto her shoulders, completely unconcerned about the shocked looks from passersby.
“Lili, do you know where the train station is?”
She had never been here before, but she knew there was such a process.
Li Mingyu nodded: “I know, how about we go to the guesthouse to drop off our luggage first and then buy tickets?”
Su Fu waved her hand: “No need, no need, let’s buy the tickets first so we don’t have to make another trip.”
That makes sense, so Li Mingyu led the way.
The train station is not far from the bus station; it takes about half an hour to walk there.
The wealthy Li Mingyu bought two sleeper tickets.
After getting the train ticket, Su Fu asked, “Li Li, I remember you said you were from the capital?”
This train ticket is for Shanghai, which doesn’t quite match up.
Li Mingyu said she was not mistaken: “My maternal grandparents live in the capital. My parents are very busy. I was raised by my maternal grandparents since I was a child.”
Su Fu didn’t let the words fall to the ground: “Then your grandparents must treat you very well.”
Li Mingyu smiled and said, “They really are very good to me. My parents are actually quite good to me too…”
Su Fu listened to the whole way about the ‘spoiling history’. Luckily, she was a person with a strong will, otherwise she would have definitely kidnapped the dog in front of her.
After arriving at the guesthouse, Su Fu put down her luggage and took out her letter of introduction.
The receptionist’s lips twitched: “This young lady is quite strong.”
Su Fu could chat with anyone outside: “Of course, I grow ten centimeters a day in our production team.”
Li Mingyu couldn’t hold back any longer. After paying, she grabbed the keys and the letter of introduction and ran upstairs.
Once inside the room, she burst out laughing: “Su Su, as far as I know, you’ve never actually worked a day in your life.”
Su Fu put her luggage away and went into the bathroom to wash her face.
“Hey, when you’re out in the world, you have to choose your own identity. You should learn from this, so you don’t end up being taken advantage of and then helping the seller count the money.”
Li Mingyu: “I’ll listen to Su Su.”
After resting for a while, the two went out for a meal, and after taking a shower, they went straight to sleep.
Before dawn the next day, Su Fu opened her eyes, picked up the clock on the bedside table, and glanced at it; it was five in the morning.
She finished getting ready before calling Li Mingyu to get up, and then ran out to buy a few steamed buns.
After Li Mingyu finished packing, the two of them walked towards the train station while munching on steamed buns.
Their train is at 6:30, and it will probably be delayed.
As expected, the train was delayed; it didn’t arrive at the station until 7 PM.
After finally managing to squeeze onto the train with her luggage, Su Fu realized there wasn’t enough room under the bed, so she simply put half of it on the bed.
Li Mingyu was truly impressed: “It feels like I don’t even need to use my brain when I go out with you.”
Su Fu raised an eyebrow: “Absolutely, our main focus is on reliability.”
Su Fu wasn’t very happy, even though it was her first time taking a train, and she was in a sleeper car at that.
There were noisy children in front and smelly old men’s feet behind.
There’s nowhere to shower, especially in the summer.
For three days and two nights, Su Fu could smell the sour stench emanating from herself without even looking down.
