Chapter 6: An Unusual Feeling
After eating and drinking their fill, a wave of drowsiness washed over them. Pan Mengyan and Jiang Ruoxi decided to bathe in the pond before resting. Although the weather wasn’t cold, the pond water was icy and unbearable. Therefore, they thought it best to heat some water for washing, which would be more comfortable.
After cleaning themselves, the two lay together on the soft, dry grass, enjoying the rare peace and comfort. Suddenly, Pan Mengyan spoke up: “Tomorrow, let’s gather some materials to fix up this cave properly. After all, we might be living here for a long time.”
Jiang Ruoxi agreed wholeheartedly: “Yes, exactly! And tomorrow we’re planning to explore the surroundings anyway, so we can collect useful things along the way.”
They continued discussing their plans for the next day while thinking about how to better adapt to this unfamiliar and challenging deserted island. Unconsciously, they gradually drifted into sweet dreams…
The Next Day
Early morning, as the sun had just risen, golden sunlight spilled across the land, illuminating the entire mountain forest.
Jiang Ruoxi slowly woke up to find herself held tightly in someone’s embrace. Blinking her eyes, she saw it was Pan Mengyan and couldn’t help but blush, her heart racing. Pan Mengyan had her left arm around Jiang Ruoxi’s waist, her left leg draped over Jiang Ruoxi’s thigh, and their bodies pressed closely together. Pan Mengyan’s face was merely centimeters away, her warm breath gently brushing against Jiang Ruoxi’s cheek, creating a tingling sensation.
Jiang Ruoxi wanted to get up but feared waking Pan Mengyan, so she lay still, feeling the other’s body heat and breathing. Her gaze rested on Pan Mengyan’s face, studying her features carefully. Pan Mengyan’s skin was fair and delicate, her features exquisitely beautiful like a painting, her long eyelashes fluttering slightly as if she might wake at any moment.
Just then, Pan Mengyan slowly opened her eyes. Seeing Jiang Ruoxi awake, she smiled faintly. “You’re awake. Did you sleep well last night?” she asked softly.
Jiang Ruoxi’s face reddened further as she stammered, “Um… alright, just… maybe because it’s my first time sleeping outdoors, I’m not quite used to it.”
Pan Mengyan asked concernedly, “Do you want to sleep a bit more? It’s still early.”
Jiang Ruoxi shook her head, saying shyly, “No need. You’re… pressing on me a bit uncomfortably.” After speaking, her face turned even redder, and she lowered her head.
Only then did Pan Mengyan realize her posture was inappropriate. She quickly released her hold, sat up straight, and coughed awkwardly. “Ahem, sorry about that. Let’s get up quickly. We’ll wash up first, then check if the fishing cage has any catch.” With that, she swiftly jumped off the bed, put on her shoes, and headed toward the pond.
Seeing this, Jiang Ruoxi hurried after her, smoothing her messy hair and clothes as she walked. Though still somewhat embarrassed inwardly, she knew Pan Mengyan meant no harm; it had just been an unconscious act.
Arriving at the riverside, Pan Mengyan bent down and lifted the fishing cage out of the water. After carefully inspecting it, she exclaimed in delight, “Wow! There are several fish inside!” Excitedly, she pointed at the fish in the trap for Jiang Ruoxi to see.
Jiang Ruoxi looked at the lively little fish, and her mood brightened. “That’s great! We have breakfast settled for today,” she said, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Next, they began preparing breakfast. Pan Mengyan skillfully lit a bonfire, cleaned the caught fish, and skewered them on branches to roast over the fire. Jiang Ruoxi helped by her side.
As they worked, their interactions gradually increased, and the atmosphere grew more harmonious. Although the morning’s little incident had left Jiang Ruoxi feeling somewhat shy, as time passed, that feeling faded, replaced by a lighthearted and cheerful ambiance.
Soon, the fish were cooked, emitting an enticing aroma. Pan Mengyan handed a roasted fish to Jiang Ruoxi and said with a smile, “Come and eat breakfast quickly. After we finish, let’s go outside to explore together.”
Jiang Ruoxi took the roasted fish, took a bite, and found the flesh tender, juicy, and incredibly delicious. She ate with a look of pure enjoyment on her face.
After placing two fish into Gouzi’s bowl, Pan Mengyan began eating as well.
As the two of them and the dog enjoyed the delicious roasted fish, their bond grew closer, and their understanding of each other deepened further.
