Chapter 6: You Can Accept My Previous Proposal
I glared at Jiang Ruohe’s icy face but soon faltered, guiltily averting my gaze.
His words were harsh, but I had sold the Nourishment my grandfather gave me. If he found out, he would be heartbroken. This debt was mine to repay.
“Yu Xiaowan, if you want me to change my opinion of you, then prove it to me.” A mocking smile curled at the corner of Jiang Ruohe’s lips.
I looked at him with frustration. Proving I could repay over two hundred thousand in a month was like going to the authorities to prove my mother is my mother. Even if I sold myself, I probably wouldn’t be worth that much money.
“I will repay the money, but the timeframe is too short. Can you give me more time…” I clenched my fists, not daring to meet his contemptuous gaze.
“That’s your problem, not mine. If you think you can’t do it, you can accept my previous proposal.” The smile on his lips deepened.
“You…” I gritted my teeth, my hand rising as if to strike him, but it ultimately fell back to my side. Fuming, I picked up the pen and signed the repayment agreement, then flung it at Jiang Ruohe’s face.
“I will repay the money. Now, get out!” I roared, my body trembling with rage.
Instead of getting angry, Jiang Ruohe simply smiled at me, his eyes seeming to say, “Let’s see how capable you are.” He then turned and left with the repayment agreement.
The moment the door closed, tears began to fall. I tried to steady my emotions, wiping them away and telling myself not to cry, but they flowed uncontrollably like a broken faucet. Finally, I crouched down and wept bitterly.
“Young Mistress, you’re back? I was just about to bring you some soup.” Aunt Liu looked surprised when she opened the door and saw me.
“The hospital was too depressing. I felt well enough, so I checked myself out.” I gave Aunt Liu a faint smile and entered the house.
“But you’ve only been hospitalized for two days! Young Mistress, does the young master or the old master know about this? You need to recover properly, or else it might affect future pregnancies…” Aunt Liu hurried after me.
Future… I scoffed inwardly.
Hiding the pain in my eyes, I turned to Aunt Liu and reassured her with a calm smile that I was perfectly fine.
“The hospital was too stifling. I can rest just as well here.”
Aunt Liu looked at me doubtfully, as if wanting to say more but ultimately holding back. She went to the kitchen and brought me the soup from the insulated container, urging me to drink more.
When she handed me the soup, my nose tingled with emotion. I looked up at her and thanked her gratefully.
“No need for thanks. It’s my duty. Young Mistress, finish your soup and go upstairs to rest. I’ll prepare dinner in the kitchen.”
Standing by the window, I gazed at the scenery outside, thinking that if I wanted to repay Jiang Ruohe, I would need to find a job and take on side work. I only had a month. Even though I knew it might be impossible to repay the full amount, I still wanted to try.
The phone in the room rang. Aunt Liu said Grandfather had rushed over in a panic after hearing I had left the hospital.
As I came downstairs, I saw Jiang Mingzhe angrily shouting at the phone.
“You brat! Do you want to be sent to Africa? Didn’t I tell you to take good care of Xiao Wan? Get your ass back here right now!”
I hurried over, and Jiang Mingzhe hung up the phone to look at me, his face full of heartache. Just as I was about to speak, he interrupted me, “Xiao Wan, Grandpa knows you’ve suffered a lot. It breaks my heart to see it.”
“Don’t worry, once that brat comes back, I’ll definitely teach him a proper lesson.”
Jiang Mingzhe didn’t give me any chance to speak, comforting me nonstop.
“Grandpa, you…”
Before I could utter the word “misunderstanding,” Jiang Ruohe pushed the door open and returned. Seeing Jiang Mingzhe raise his cane to strike Jiang Ruohe, I quickly stepped in front of him.
The cane hit my back shoulder. I let out a muffled groan, stumbling and falling against Jiang Ruohe, only to be pushed away by him in disgust.
“Yu Xiaowan, I knew you’d use Grandpa to control me.”
That contemptuous look was indescribably painful.
