Chapter 10: Never Fall in Love with Her in This Lifetime
Somewhere in a private club.
Fu Hansheng lounged lazily on the leather sofa.
Lu Zheng carefully analyzed the situation for him.
“Fu San, I actually looked into it for you, but unfortunately…”
“The surveillance from that night was damaged.”
Fu Hansheng responded with a soft “Hmm,” his voice clear and smooth, carrying a lazy tone.
“I know.”
Lu Zheng abruptly stood up.
“Damn.”
“You knew and still had me investigate?”
Fu Hansheng couldn’t help but chuckle at his comical movement.
The corners of his eyebrows lifted slightly.
Lu Zheng sat back down and pulled out the information he had gathered.
He analyzed, “I think although Nan Chu likes you, she really wouldn’t go so far as to drug you.”
“If she really wanted to drug you, since she’s already living in your house, why would she need to go to a hotel?”
Fu Hansheng wasn’t surprised that the hotel surveillance was damaged.
After returning, he had analyzed the situation whoever did this was meticulous and left no evidence, managing to drug him unnoticed and successfully scheme against him.
They wouldn’t have forgotten to destroy the surveillance footage.
Lu Zheng sighed, “Really, that’s just how surveillance is.”
“Of all times to break down, it had to be at the critical moment.”
“I’m telling you, surveillance only fails when you need it most. It can go centuries without a problem, but the moment you rely on it, it lets you down.”
Fu Hansheng took a small sip of his drink.
It was spicy and pungent.
Flowing down his throat into his stomach, it brought a strong burning sensation.
He liked this numbing feeling.
But Fu Hansheng was extremely restrained he didn’t smoke or drink excessively.
His self-control was remarkable; during his studies abroad, his foreign classmates often remarked on his diligence and discipline.
Fu Hansheng disliked indulgence, as well as smoking and heavy drinking.
In his eyes, the more beautiful something was, the easier it was to become lost in it.
The same went for love.
His parents had been busy with their careers since he was young, so Fu Hansheng had experienced very little love.
He rarely spends time with them.
He couldn’t understand love, nor did he want to know what it was.
After just a small sip, he set the glass down.
In contrast, Lu Zheng, sitting beside him, drank recklessly.
Gulping down several mouthfuls, he finished his drink in no time.
Lu Zheng didn’t care about such things; he had an older brother ten years his senior.
In ancient times, he would have been nothing more than a leisurely prince.
He had no grand ambitions.
If someone else was making money for him to spend, why would he complain?
“Fu San, I’m not trying to lecture you or anything.”
“But I think you should treat Nan Chu a little better.”
“You might regret it someday. Don’t think you don’t like her.”
“Deep down, you actually do like her. If it were any other woman doing these things eating river snail rice noodles in your house, raising goldfish and turtles you’d have packed her off to Africa long ago.”
A soft laugh escaped Fu Hansheng’s throat.
It was faint, tinged with a hint of mockery.
He looked at Lu Zheng seriously.
His voice was low and hoarse.
“Lu Zheng.”
“I will never fall in love with her.”
A man strolled leisurely through the door, his posture tall and relaxed.
He was about the same height as Fu Hansheng.
His tone was light with amusement.
“Who will never fall in love with whom?”
Lu Zheng pointed at Fu Hansheng.
“Fu San said he will never fall in love with Luo Nanchu in this lifetime.”
“Nian Ge, you be the witness.”
“Fu San, let’s make a bet. If you haven’t fallen in love with Nan Chu in three years, you give me half of the land in the northern part of the city.”
Fu Hansheng smiled faintly.
“You can have all of it.”
Lu Zheng clapped his hands together, producing a crisp sound.
“Good! Nian Ge, you heard him!”
Nian Sishi watched Fu Hansheng with keen interest.
Fu Hansheng and Nian Sishi exchanged a glance.
Fu Hansheng raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Don’t believe me?”
Of course, Nian Sishi didn’t believe him, because he had suffered similar losses with Qin Ge before.
He knew all too well that falling in love always catches one by surprise.
Just when he thought he could control his heart and remain unmoved by women, he found himself falling.
And in that relationship, both parties ended up wounded.
Right now, what he wanted most was to hold Qin Ge tightly in his arms and recklessly feel every inch, every part of each other.
A faint smile flickered at the corner of Nian Sishi’s lips.
He looked at Fu Hansheng with profound sincerity.
“Fu San, I already regret it.”
Nian Sishi’s tone was soft, his voice slightly hoarse.
Fu Hansheng lifted his gaze to meet Nian Sishi’s eyes.
In that moment, Nian Sishi’s eyes were shadowed with darkness.
Fu Hansheng said nothing, withdrawing his gaze and picking up his glass to take another small sip.
As if unsatisfied, craving the sensation the ice cubes in the glass provided, he took another large gulp.
Only when the cool liquor slid down his throat did he feel some relief from the stifling heat.
Lu Zheng sighed softly, shrugging helplessly as he spread his hands.
“Fu San, you really shouldn’t doubt it.”
Fu Hansheng subtly changed the subject.
“Old Nian, how are the acquisition talks going?”
Nian Sishi smiled lazily.
Seeing his expression, Fu Hansheng’s lips curved upward.
It seemed the acquisition was progressing quite smoothly.
With all the time Nian Sishi had invested, failure wasn’t an option.
The two raised their glasses in tacit understanding.
The clear sound of ice clinking and glasses touching rang out – crisp and pleasant.
Only then did Lu Zheng react, quickly pushing his glass into the mix.
“Hey, hey, you two.”
“Celebrating without me?”
Fu Hansheng and Nian Sishi shared a knowing smile.
Lu Zheng snorted coldly.
“Hmph.”
“You’ll both take a tumble in matters of love.”
Compared to Fu Hansheng, Nian Sishi was the experienced one.
So Nian Sishi neither confirmed nor denied Lu Zheng’s words, merely smiling faintly.
Fu Hansheng believed that love and romance were largely unnecessary in his life.
Especially romantic love.
He had experienced very little familial affection.
Four years ago, his parents had contacted him out of the blue and dumped a girl seven years his junior at home.
Fu Hansheng initially thought she was some illegitimate child of his parents.
He showed no mercy toward this supposed sister.
When she stepped on chopsticks on the floor or dropped a glass, he would sneer that she should go back to kindergarten since she couldn’t even walk steadily.
After learning she was the child of his parents’ close friends, Fu Hansheng’s attitude and expression softened somewhat.
But only somewhat.
From that day on, he gradually grew accustomed to having someone other than the housekeeper at home.
Fu Hansheng still didn’t consider her part of his family.
But Fu Hansheng had never truly understood himself.
From the moment this girl barged unceremoniously into his world, and he chose to let her in rather than keep her out, his heart had already been breached.
It was just unclear when Fu Hansheng would realize this.
The three chatted idly.
As midnight approached, Lu Zheng reluctantly left – he hadn’t had his fill of fun yet.
Fu Hansheng and Nian Sishi stood side by side under the night sky.
Seeing the hollow, numb look in Nian Sishi’s eyes, Fu Hansheng spoke.
“What are you thinking about?”
Nian Sishi replied slowly.
“Qin Ge.”
Fu Hansheng sneered coldly and strode directly toward his own G-Class, leaving behind a single remark, “Hopeless.”
Watching Fu Hansheng’s tall figure, Nian Sishi didn’t argue back, merely replying to him.
“You will too.”
These words, Fu Hansheng mocked inwardly.
He firmly believed that he wouldn’t.
