Chapter 5: Misunderstanding
Luo Nanchu heard running water from the bathroom.
She quietly entered Fu Hansheng’s bedroom.
In her previous life, she had secretly left a love letter in Fu Hansheng’s bedroom.
After the letter was discovered, Fu Hansheng became even more convinced that she was the one who had drugged him.
She searched around for a long time before finally finding that confession letter.
When she found it, she let out a long sigh of relief.
Fortunately, it was still unopened.
As she turned around, the man was standing at the doorway.
His eyes were slightly narrowed, staring intently at her.
After a moment of panic, Luo Nanchu composed herself—she had no reason to feel guilty.
Fu Hansheng’s lips curled slightly, his eyes filled with obvious disdain.
His voice was hoarse, carrying a warning tone.
“Luo Nanchu.”
“What are you trying to do now?”
Luo Nanchu subtly tucked the letter behind her back.
She said, “I’m not doing anything.”
“I’ll leave right now.”
Fu Hansheng’s tone was icy, his dark eyes flashing with complex emotions.
“Nanchu.”
“I told you, you can’t enter my bedroom.”
“We’re both adults.”
He glanced at the watch on his wrist and let out a soft, mocking laugh.
“What time is it now?”
“It’s the middle of the night, and you’re entering a man’s room.”
His sarcastic tone made Luo Nanchu feel wronged.
“What are you hiding behind your back?”
He walked behind her and leisurely opened the letter.
After reading the contents, he frowned, his expression darkening.
【Fu Hansheng, I like you.】
【Ever since I first came to the Fu family…】
Fu Hansheng lifted his eyes and chuckled lightly, “Our families are old friends. By seniority, you should call me Little Uncle.”
“But Nanchu, I’ve always treated you like a sister.”
“You’re a girl—you should have more self-respect.”
Hearing these words, Luo Nanchu’s tears welled up abruptly because of his remark.
She felt wrong for having liked him for so long.
As she met his gaze, the helplessness and fear of drowning in the depths of the sea instantly flooded her heart.
Along with his cold, disappointed eyes before her death.
Her gaze was resolute as she stared stubbornly at him.
The man before her was noble yet aloof, cold and distant.
He always carried an air of superiority.
She had liked him, indifferent to his attitude, uncaring whether he disliked her.
Luo Nanchu took a deep breath.
“Fu Hansheng, I don’t like you anymore.”
She snatched the letter back.
The letter had been written before her rebirth.
It wasn’t written by her present self.
These feelings belonged to her past life—in this life, she didn’t like him.
Right in front of Fu Hansheng, she tore the letter in half.
Fu Hansheng watched her movements.
After tearing it to shreds, Luo Nanchu directly threw it into the trash can.
Her actions showed no hesitation whatsoever.
“Little Uncle.”
“I don’t like you anymore.”
That address—”Little Uncle”—made Fu Hansheng’s heart waver slightly.
There wasn’t a trace of hesitation in her; her eyes were clear and candid.
Fu Hansheng looked at the girl whose face was filled with stubbornness and seriousness.
Luo Nanchu walked out of his room.
Her slender figure disappeared.
Fu Hansheng frowned.
Luo Nanchu returned to her own bedroom.
The several-hundred-square-meter apartment was silent.
She glanced around.
She had lived in this bedroom for four years.
This room held memories of her initial unease when she first arrived at the Fu family, and later, of her clinging to Fu Hansheng like an enthusiastic little sun.
Fu Hansheng was her first love.
The first time her heart fluttered for someone.
It could also be considered her first heartbreak.
She sat cross-legged on the floor, packing her belongings as she prepared to move out of Fu Hansheng’s apartment.
The gifts Fu Hansheng had given her were things she had carefully preserved before her rebirth.
Now she pulled out a large suitcase and casually tossed the birthday presents and handbags he’d given her inside.
After packing those, she began organizing her clothes.
There were quite a few items.
Looking at all these possessions, she wondered how she would manage to move everything.
She quickly finished packing.
She spent the entire evening browsing rental listings online.
She wanted to find a place near the hospital for easier commute.
Fu Hansheng’s apartment was quite far from the hospital, requiring an hour of travel each day.
Back when she was pursuing Fu Hansheng, she had been afraid that moving out would create distance between them.
So, she continued living here all this time.
She wanted to rent a two-bedroom apartment, not too large.
Just enough for one person to live comfortably.
After browsing through numerous listings, she found several satisfactory options.
She scheduled viewings with a real estate agent.
The appointment was set for 8 AM the next morning.
The following morning, she met the agent at the base of the residential complex.
The agent enthusiastically showed her each available unit.
“Miss Luo, young women like you are better off renting in proper residential complexes.”
“Although housing prices are cheaper in those Urban Villages, they’re not safe.”
“Too many people coming and going, all sorts of mixed crowds.”
Luo Nanchu had mentioned to her parents that she wanted to move out of Fu Hansheng’s apartment.
Mother Luo had been somewhat surprised when she found out but readily agreed.
“Chuchu, your father and I are busy overseas.”
“We can’t return anytime soon.”
“Should I have my assistant come back and help you buy an apartment near the hospital?”
Luo Nanchu declined.
She was afraid she might want to leave Jingbei in the future.
Luo Nanchu had sufficient funds for renting, though her internship salary was quite low—she even had to supplement it.
She relied entirely on financial support from her parents.
The agent asked about her rental budget and housing requirements, then showed her several more units.
Luo Nanchu settled on the third apartment the agent showed her.
It was only a ten-minute walk to the hospital.
The complex had good greenery and was quiet.
The agent praised her choice, “Miss Luo, you have excellent taste.”
“Most residents here are doctors from your hospital.”
“This complex is very peaceful.”
It was an upscale residential area with a prime location and high property values.
“The landlord is also a doctor from your hospital.”
“You might even know each other—his surname is Chen; he’s a surgeon at your hospital.”
“Quite a handsome young man.”
Suddenly, the agent’s expression shifted slightly.
Luo Nanchu asked what was wrong.
She said, “Since you’re in a hurry to rent…”
“The only drawback is that the landlord won’t move out until the end of the month.”
“The landlord is abroad for advanced training and won’t return until month’s end.”
“You’ll have to wait until then to move in.”
Luo Nanchu hesitated for a moment but ultimately agreed.
“That’s fine, I can wait.”
“Can I move in immediately at the end of the month?”
The agent nodded.
They signed a preliminary agreement, and she could move in directly at month’s end.
By the time they finished the viewing and signed the agreement, dusk was settling.
Fu Hansheng usually returned to the apartment around 7 PM.
If she went back at this time, she would run into him.
Luo Nanchu wandered around outside, deliberately killing time.
At 8 PM, when she reached the apartment building and saw Fu Hansheng’s car, she quickly hid.
She waited until the apartment lights turned on, then cautiously opened the door half an hour later.
As she pushed the door open, she saw a man’s long legs naturally crossed as he sat on the living room sofa.
Hearing the door open, the man slowly looked up.
Luo Nanchu felt embarrassed. She lowered her head, unwilling to look directly at him.
Fu Hansheng’s voice rang out.
“You’re back?”
“Nanchu, it’s almost nine o’clock now.”
Luo Nanchu gave a soft “Mm.”
She quickly rushed back to her bedroom.
