After lunch, Su Hao took a short break, then opened her computer and began drafting her resignation letter.
She had looked into the company’s resignation procedures. There was no template for a resignation letter; she had to write it herself. Online, all she could find were clichés like “The world is so big, I want to go see it.”
Su Hao’s resignation was straightforward: first, she truly wanted nothing more to do with Zhou Yang; second, after working in this position for some time, she realized there was little room for growth; third, she had learned a bit about Tang Yu’s job—sales wasn’t that hard; fourth, her English was quite good, and she planned to switch to export work.
She finished writing the letter sincerely. Just then, the phone on her desk rang, waking up Lu Mimi, who was resting nearby. Since she was close, she picked it up.
It was President Zeng on the other end.
Lu Mimi immediately straightened up, “President Zeng.”
After listening for a moment, her expression brightened slightly, but the next second, it changed again. She glanced at Su Hao. Su Hao looked back at her, and Lu Mimi, after hanging up, frowned and said, “President Zeng wants you to come downstairs for a promo video and magazine shoot.”
Su Hao closed her document and paused. “Do I really have to go?”
Lu Mimi thought, Seriously, have some shame. She smoothed her clothes and said, “Yes. Your name has already been submitted. You think this is a joke? You didn’t sign up yourself, did you?”
“No, I didn’t,” Su Hao said, standing and picking up her phone.
Lu Mimi’s face darkened further. President Zeng’s tone had been firm just now. So he personally submitted Su Hao’s name? She led the way to the elevator.
President Zeng really is biased, she thought.
The elevator descended to the fourth floor, the Live & Short Video Department.
All the filming equipment was here. People from the PR department were present, and outside stood several well-known beauties from the company. The live video team had more people, while the other departments were scattered. Last year, Tang Yu had won first place, but this year she didn’t participate. The company’s magazine and promo videos frequently featured her, though reality often differed from the finished product. Nevertheless, it didn’t stop Tang Yu from having an incredibly lucky love life this year.
The beauties here carried an air of superiority. Those in the Live Video Department were more confident. When Su Hao sat down in a chair, she browsed nearby foreign trade job listings on her phone.
Lu Mimi kept competing with the other beauties, looking determined. Her opponents were the live video department girls, who barely noticed Su Hao from the other department.
Lu Mimi came out transformed—heavy makeup, curled hair, exuding charm. Then it was Su Hao’s turn. She held her phone and pushed the door open. Inside, a few familiar faces noticed her and waved. Qi Lin was among them. Sitting in a chair, he smiled upon seeing her.
“President Zeng sent you?” he asked.
Su Hao nodded.
The PR director looked at Su Hao’s face. She appeared non-threatening. The director reached out and pulled her along. “Come in. We’re trying a new style this year. We haven’t decided yet. Let’s see what suits you.”
Clothes hung neatly on a rack—clearly high-end.
The director picked up several outfits, gesturing toward Su Hao. Makeup artists and stylists studied her carefully. Finally, the stylist snapped her fingers and pulled out a light-colored cheongsam.
The director’s eyes lit up. “This one!”
They escorted Su Hao to the changing room. Soon, she was made up and styled.
This was Su Hao’s second time wearing a cheongsam. The color was soft, and the slit was relatively high. The stylist applied makeup, and her hair was partially curled, partially left down. When she looked in the mirror, the curls partially framed her face. She raised her gaze, and all three women’s hearts skipped a beat.
She was stunning—so sexy.
The three women led her out. Qi Lin and the others, seated, all looked up and froze.
At that moment, Zhou Yang also glanced over. Su Hao happened to meet his gaze. Their eyes locked for a mere second. She looked away. Zhou Yang stayed silent for a few seconds, took the cigarette from his mouth, then looked at Qi Lin, tapping his fingers twice. Qi Lin immediately snapped back to attention, stood, and went over to Zhou Yang.
The entire room fell silent. Zhou Yang glanced at Qi Lin and extinguished his cigarette. “Still not back to your senses?”
Qi Lin smiled. “I’m back.”
Zhou Yang ground out the cigarette more forcefully, a vein popping on his forehead. “I’ll be away on a business trip. Fei Jie, handle the Haishi group. Find a reason to fire them all. I’ll take responsibility for the consequences.”
Qi Lin nodded. “Got it.”
“Many people are being poached in Kyoto. Go there. Make sure no one slips through. Make them all leave.”
“Understood.”
A few seconds of silence.
Zhou Yang asked, “That just now… was Su Hao?”
Qi Lin, a little surprised, looked at Zhou Yang. On closer inspection, he realized Zhou Yang today looked less suave, more hardened.
A hint of dark circles, the man looked as though he had been tormented.
Qi Lin whispered, “Yes… it’s Su Hao.”
Zhou Yang smiled faintly. “Is that so?”
After taking a few photos, Su Hao thought she could leave. Unexpectedly, they also filmed a video, and she changed into two more cheongsams. She idly checked her phone.
The company gossip group had over nine hundred messages.
“Wow, Su Hao’s been chosen!”
“OMG, she beat a ton of beauties and won first place. I need to see her. Is she prettier than Tang Yu?”
“Seriously gorgeous! When she wore the cheongsam, even our restrained Qi Lin couldn’t look away.”
Tang Yu sent several private messages.
Tang Yu: Congratulations! You’re this year’s Fei Jie brand ambassador.
Tang Yu: Sister, let’s rule the world together.
Only then did Su Hao realize she had become the female lead for the promo video and magazine. She didn’t reply to Tang Yu—how could she, about to resign? She wouldn’t see next year’s magazine or video.
The plane landed at a secluded mountain airstrip.
Zhou Yang wore black sunglasses, a white shirt, and trousers. He glanced at his watch and boarded the plane with his assistant Lu. The interior was spacious. Once seated, the captain quietly said, “Mr. Zhou, sorry, one flight attendant is stuck in traffic.”
Zhou Yang raised an eyebrow. “Still waiting?”
“She’s on her way, sorry,” the captain said, checking his watch.
Zhou Yang clicked his tongue. “Fine.”
A minute later, footsteps sounded on the stairs. A woman straightened her collar and entered.
“Sorry, Zhou Yang, I’m late.”
He frowned, recognizing a somewhat familiar face, though he couldn’t recall immediately.
“Who are you?”
Chi Lin stuck her tongue out. “Pfft, forgot me?”
He looked closer and finally remembered. “Long time no see.”
Chi Lin still carried that arrogant, confident air. She went to get settled but soon returned to the cabin, sitting opposite Zhou Yang, swinging her long legs just like back in school.
Zhou Yang leafed through documents, ignoring her. Perhaps not ignoring—he simply didn’t have the mood. His mind was on the cheongsam. He frowned, then closed his laptop and looked out the window.
The plane flew steadily.
Chi Lin unbuckled her seatbelt and poured tea for Zhou Yang, her movements flawless, fingers slender and fair, displaying a subtle tenderness that caught Zhou Yang’s glance.
Another flight attendant, Lin Qiao, poured tea for Lu, smiling with a slight dimple. Zhou Yang looked at her too.
He was exceptionally handsome, a young master of the Zhou family in Li City, wealthy beyond measure. His simple shirt and trousers revealed a toned physique. A single glance carried both authority and subtle charm, enough to unsettle most women.
Lin Qiao looked at Chi Lin, then switched to serve Zhou Yang.
Chi Lin snorted and stepped aside.
This flight attendant was gentler. Every movement seemed modeled after Su Hao. Zhou Yang could easily take her in his arms if he wanted.
“Mr. Zhou?” Lin Qiao asked softly.
He leaned back. “Your name?”
“Lin Qiao.”
“Nice name.”
“Thank you.” Lin Qiao’s repeated thanks were almost musical. She saw Zhou Yang rub his temples and quietly asked, “Shall I massage?”
He shook his head.
“Everyone, rest then.” He closed his eyes, throat exposed—a silent dismissal. Both women glanced at each other, a bit disappointed, then turned away, shoulders brushing deliberately.
Chi Lin had a purpose; Lin Qiao was merely attracted.
Lu asked softly, “Mr. Zhou, coffee?”
“Mm.”
He didn’t want to touch either of them—not Chi Lin, his usual type, nor the gentle Lin Qiao. He didn’t even have the mood to tease.
Was it that he couldn’t have it, so he was preoccupied?
Su Hao.
Impressive.
After over four hours of flight, they arrived at a secret base airstrip. Only Zhou Yang and Lu were allowed; the plane had to return immediately.
While taxiing, Lin Qiao came to tidy Zhou Yang’s magazines. He rubbed his brow, took out his phone, and noticed a voice message from President Zeng.
He played it.
“Mr. Zhou, Su Hao resigned.”
Zhou Yang froze, sprang up, holding his waist and phone, clenched his fists. “Say that again. What happened?”
“Su Hao resigned.”
A few seconds of silence. Zhou Yang lowered his voice. “Is that so?”
He looked out at the endless grasslands. Lin Qiao noticed his absent-mindedness. “Mr. Zhou, we can get off the plane now.”
Zhou Yang didn’t respond. He picked up his phone to call Su Hao.
Disconnected.
She had blocked him.
