A few days later, He Yanzi’s injuries had mostly healed.
She completed the discharge procedures, changed her clothes, and prepared to leave.
Just then, the door to the hospital room was suddenly pushed open.
Han Jingyun strode in, dressed in a professional suit and high heels, and handed a folder to He Yanzi.
“Miss He, the drama you were previously attached to now belongs to Xue Panpan. Your reputation isn’t in a good place right now—you urgently need to turn your image around. I’ve negotiated another project for you, a film where you’ll be the female lead.”
She spoke assertively. “I’ve looked into it—Miss He, you’re from Hong Kong. This is a big-budget production with a Hong Kong setting. You’ll feel right at home in the role. If you perform well, winning awards after the film’s release won’t be a problem. Once audiences see you in this movie, they’ll definitely have an entirely new impression of you.”
“These are the contract and the script. Take a look and sign when you’re done.”
He Yanzi stared at her confident, composed face, and the image of Huo Junfeng holding Han Jingyun as they entered the CEO’s lounge resurfaced vividly in her mind.
She neither spoke nor moved.
Han Jingyun showed a knowing expression and said calmly, “Don’t worry. I’m a professional businesswoman with ethics. I wouldn’t do anything that harms others without benefiting myself.”
“This is also President Huo’s decision.”
Lowering her head, He Yanzi accepted the folder.
The contract was indeed for a female lead role, with conditions so generous they seemed unreal.
But after reading only a few lines of the script, He Yanzi suddenly looked up.
Han Jingyun asked, “Miss He, is there a problem?”
He Yanzi handed the folder back. “I can’t do this film.”
Han Jingyun’s smile faded. “The female lead is from Hong Kong, close to your age. There are no bed scenes—there isn’t even any ambiguous romance. Why can’t you do it?”
He Yanzi ignored her and tried to walk past her, but Han Jingyun grabbed her arm.
“Miss He—”
Unable to tolerate her touch, He Yanzi shook her off forcefully.
Han Jingyun staggered back two steps, slammed into the wall, and let out a muffled groan, her face turning pale.
The next second, Huo Junfeng appeared at the doorway of the hospital room. His expression was dark as he looked at He Yanzi.
“Yanyan, since when did you become so unreasonable?” he said coldly. “Lashing out and hurting people at will?”
He Yanzi repeated numbly, “Hurting people?”
Huo Junfeng helped Han Jingyun sit down. “I saw everything. You pushed Jingyun into the wall. She only injured her back yesterday during an inspection at a frontline facility. You’ve gone too far. Apologize to Jingyun.”
Meeting his gaze, He Yanzi suddenly lost all strength to argue.
She lowered her head. “President Han, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
Watching her obedient apology, a strange feeling flickered through Huo Junfeng’s heart—but before he could grasp it, Han Jingyun stepped forward and repeated what He Yanzi had said earlier.
“I knew you were worried about Miss He, so I went to great lengths to secure this female lead role for her. But she’s acting childish and refusing to accept it. President Huo, what do you think…”
Standing beside the hospital bed, Huo Junfeng spoke in a flat tone that allowed no refusal. “Yanyan, Jingyun already showed me the script. This role truly suits you. Sign the contract.”
“And remember to thank Jingyun. Without her connections, you wouldn’t have gotten this project.”
He Yanzi abruptly threw off the blanket and sat up, staring straight at him.
“Suited to me?” she said. “Huo Junfeng, this is a bloody, violent crime film! You know that!”
When she was eight years old, she had been kidnapped and held captive for a week. She had personally witnessed the kidnappers execute a hostage—the victim was disemboweled and beaten to death.
When Huo Junfeng arrived with the rescue team to save her, someone else was shot dead right in front of her. Warm blood splattered all over her face and hair.
From that moment on, He Yanzi developed severe post-traumatic stress disorder.
She couldn’t hear gunshots. She couldn’t see large amounts of blood.
In severe cases, she would lose consciousness—her life in danger.
Back then, Huo Junfeng had been heartbroken. Holding her tightly, pressing his cheek against hers, he had soothed her softly: “Yanyan, don’t be afraid. I’m here. I’ll protect you for the rest of my life. I’ll never let you face something like this again.”
When she entered the entertainment industry, he had indeed protected her well.
No matter how busy he was, he would review her scripts and variety shows in advance, never allowing her to come into contact with scenes like this—not even a trace of them.
But now, Huo Junfeng looked down at He Yanzi from above and said calmly, “That was a long time ago. Yanyan, you need to learn to face your fears if you truly want to grow up.”
The Huo Uncle who had once treasured her like a precious jewel in the palm of his hand was truly gone.
He Yanzi’s face turned ashen as she closed her eyes.
At this moment, she completely gave up on Huo Junfeng—without a single shred of hope left.
