When she woke again, a warm hand was resting on her forehead.
“Yan-yan, you’re awake? Are you feeling better?”
He Yanzi had no expectations left toward Ho Junfeng. She turned her head to avoid his touch and said flatly, “I’m not dead.”
Ho Junfeng frowned. “Do you have to talk like that?”
He Yanzi opened her eyes and looked at him, her tone full of mockery. “Then how should I talk? Thank you for telling Han Jingyun about what happened to me as a child? Thank her for having the crew recreate the set exactly like the place where I was kidnapped back then?”
Ho Junfeng’s expression darkened. “I did tell Jingyun about your childhood, but she meant well. She wanted to help you overcome your psychological trauma. Aren’t you fine now?”
Fine…
The moment He Yanzi woke up, she felt sharp pain in her palm.
During her episode, she had unknowingly dug her nails deep into her flesh.
The despair during the attack, the weakness and exhaustion she felt lying here now…
Ho Junfeng said she was “fine.”
He Yanzi tugged at the corner of her lips and stopped talking to him.
Ho Junfeng said in a low voice, “I must straighten out that spoiled temperament of yours, no matter what.”
With that, he left the hospital room.
He Yanzi immediately sat up, picked up her phone, and dialed a number she knew by heart. “Dad.”
The call was answered almost instantly. Just two words from the other end made her burst into tears.
Choking back sobs, she said, “Help me.”
When she finally put the phone away, her eyes were red, yet a faint smile appeared on her face.
By the time He Yanzi returned to the set, Ho Junfeng had already left due to company matters.
Han Jingyun was still there.
Out of Ho Junfeng’s sight, she no longer bothered to maintain the image of a meticulous, considerate businesswoman. The look she gave He Yanzi was full of disdain.
“Yuanzhou and I are confidants who can talk about anything. We’re the same age, perfectly matched. He Yanzi, what gives you the right to occupy the position of Mrs. Ho? Because you’re younger? Because you know how to cry and act cute?”
He Yanzi remained calm and said lightly, “The divorce agreement has already been signed. If you want to be Mrs. Ho, go ahead.”
Han Jingyun sneered. “You’d better stick to that. I’m just afraid you’ll regret it later and go crying to Yuanzhou, throwing tantrums and threatening suicide to beg him to come back.”
He Yanzi lifted her head and looked at the sky, where a trace of golden light was breaking through. “Rest assured. That will never happen.”
Han Jingyun didn’t believe her.
So she continued to target He Yanzi everywhere on set.
With the backing of the Chu Group, some fame in the business world, and her status as the head of the Chu Group’s only entertainment company, people on set had to give her face one way or another.
Meanwhile, He Yanzi had recently been exposed in scandals—accused of knowingly being a mistress and seducing an older married man.
People who looked down on her or mocked her openly were everywhere.
He Yanzi didn’t care at all.
Even when Ho Junfeng called and told her to behave herself, listen to Han Jingyun, and learn more from her, she didn’t argue.
On the other end of the call, Ho Junfeng felt a strange sense of unease.
He Yanzi said, “I’m going to film now.”
Then she hung up.
Today was the most important scene of the entire movie.
The destruction of the gang’s hideout—a massive scene with consecutive explosions.
The crew had been preparing for it for half a month.
Only today were the actors finally arranged to enter the set to rehearse their positions.
He Yanzi arrived very early that day. None of the other actors had arrived yet.
She put on her costume, greeted the staff, then turned and walked straight into the set.
Her phone rang.
She glanced down at the caller ID: Ho Junfeng.
She didn’t answer. Instead, she handed the phone to a crew member and walked into the set without looking back.
The film’s style was bold and intense. The weather cooperated—another windy day.
Her long hair whipped wildly in the wind.
Watching her slender figure, a crew member couldn’t help saying, “Miss He really lives up to her reputation as the most lively young actress. Her looks and aura are seriously impressive…”
Her phone kept ringing.
As if it would never stop unless someone answered.
When the crew member saw the name on the caller ID, they were startled. “It’s President Ho calling. Should we call Miss He back to answer it first?”
But He Yanzi had already reached the deepest part of the set.
Another crew member said, “Why don’t you answer first and explain the situation to President Ho? We can bring the phone to Miss He.”
“Okay.”
The call connected.
“Yan-yan, today is your birthday. I’m on my way—”
The crew member hurriedly interrupted, “President Ho, I’m with the film crew. Miss He is rehearsing her positions—”
“Boom—”
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Explosions erupted. Flames shot into the sky.
He Yanzi’s figure was instantly swallowed by the blast.
The crew member holding the phone was frozen in shock at the violent explosion.
From the phone came Ho Junfeng’s urgent voice. “What was that sound? What happened? Where’s Yan-yan? Let her answer the phone!”
Nearby, someone screamed in terror, their voice piercing. “Call the fire department! Call the police! Call an ambulance! Save her!”
People rushed forward from all directions.
Ho Junfeng’s voice grew more frantic with each word. “Where is Yan-yan? Say something!”
Staring at the area that had been blown into ruins, the crew member said hoarsely, “Miss He went to rehearse her positions… there was an explosion…”
From the distance came a scream filled with absolute horror, sharp enough to tear through eardrums. “Oh my God! Miss He has been blown to death!”
On his way to the set, Ho Junfeng suddenly tightened his grip on the phone.
“Impossible. Yan-yan can’t be dead. I don’t believe it!”
