Gu Youyou, the first in line to inherit the Gu family fortune, lost both her parents at a young age, but thankfully grew up safely despite her fears.
Just when she finally defeated all the powerful figures coveting her succession and ascended to the throne, she transmigrated…
Lying on a dilapidated bed in a dark room, Gu Youyou sighed: Life is like a TV drama, the scene changes in an instant! Whether you’re bewildered or completely clueless!
She originally thought the story would end with a beautiful female CEO inheriting the family business, finding a live-in son-in-law, and living a life of leisure together, but unexpectedly, the story took a dramatic turn at the very beginning, leaving her completely unprepared.
Fine, transmigrating is fine, she accepted it, but of all people, she had to be transmigrated into the body of a sickly person who was clearly not going to live much longer.
The feeling of waiting to die was unbearable, so she tried everything she could to survive!
Gathering her thoughts, Gu Youyou surveyed the completely enclosed, dark room. Several small holes, about the size of fingers, near the wall served as ventilation openings and the only places where sunlight could penetrate. With
great effort, Gu Youyou rolled over, quietly straining her ears to listen to the sounds coming from the front yard.
“Dad, did you really find Youyou a husband?” Gu’s second son asked incredulously.
His eldest niece, Gu Youyou, was a sickly woman who seemed on the verge of death—a fact known for miles around. Why marry someone like that? Did they expect her to carry on the family line?
Or did they have so many coffins they didn’t have enough dead people to sleep in? It was hard to believe.
Old Master Gu glanced at his second son with his cloudy eyes, then said in a weary, aged voice, “Hmph, what? You’re not happy about it?”
The second son choked on his words with a dry laugh, “No, no, how could that be? We couldn’t be happier!”
Upon hearing this, Old Master Gu slammed his hand on the table, roaring, “You heartless bastards! I knew you couldn’t wait for Youyou to get married! Ever since she fell ill, you’ve wished for her death every day. She’s your eldest brother’s only bloodline, how can you be so cruel…”
The second and third sons were speechless, terrified by his sudden change in expression. What was this all about? It wasn’t you who insisted on marrying her off, it wasn’t us who forced her.
“Father, what are you saying? You said before that our two families would support her for life, and we didn’t say anything!”
Besides, with Youyou’s inhuman appearance, it’s quite an achievement that you could actually find her a husband.
But then he remembered that the old man had clearly said he would take care of Gu Youyou for life, but lately he seemed to have lost his mind, going around looking for a husband for her and insisting on marrying her off. This was too strange.
The key point was that he actually found one. Could it be that he was hiding the fact that Gu Youyou was sickly from them?
The old man, unaware of his second son’s complicated thoughts, was just panting heavily with anger.
Seeing that his father was truly angry, the third son of the Gu family quickly sat down on the kang (a heated brick bed) next to him and gently patted his back to help him catch his breath.
“Father, how could we wish for Youyou to die? Second Brother didn’t mean that. He meant that it’s a good thing Youyou is getting married, so Eldest Brother can rest in peace.” He then winked at the second son of the Gu family, saying, “Right, Second Brother?”
The second son, naturally understanding the third son’s meaning, seized the opportunity and flattered Old Master Gu, saying, “Yes, Father, isn’t the point of raising a daughter to hope she marries into a good family? After Eldest Brother and Sister-in-law died, we all treated Youyou like our own daughter.” (
