Chapter 6: Secretly Pouring Medicine.
Gu Youyou’s ordeal wasn’t over yet; Huang Shi had also eaten the last half bowl of porridge. However, sitting up had exhausted all her strength, leaving her no chance to resist.
The feeling of being hungry and having to watch others eat was truly unbearable. Gu Youyou thought to herself, “Huang Shi, as long as I, Gu Youyou, can get out of this haunted house, as long as I don’t die, I’ll make sure you starve to the point of eating straw mats.”
Indeed, she had been here for half a year and had already eaten straw mats once.
Huang Shi slowly finished Gu Youyou’s porridge and then brought over some dark medicinal liquid. She grinned, revealing her large yellow teeth, and said, “I won’t take this from you; I’ll drink it until you die.”
Gu Youyou glared at her coldly, her eyes wide open, a sight that made Huang Shi scream in fright. The original Gu Youyou had been imprisoned here for ten years and frequently abused by her two aunts; it was quite an achievement that she had survived until half a year ago.
Her hair was withered, her eyes sunken, and she had no flesh on her body, just skin and bones. She truly deserved the title of “ghost girl,” and her cousins even called her “Ghost Sister.”
“You little brat, trying to scare me to death?”
Gu Youyou said coldly. “Second Aunt, just leave the medicine here for now, I’ll drink it myself later.”
Huang Shi was more than happy; this ghost girl was truly frightening, and had startled her unexpectedly.
She got up, dusted off her clothes, and said, “Alright, you drink it yourself. I’ll come back for the bowl at noon. Remember to finish it properly; you’re getting married in a few days, you need to be in good spirits.”Gu Youyou stared coldly at her, making her feel like she was being watched by a ghost, which terrified her so much that she ran away as fast as she could.
She glanced at the medicine on the table, swallowed hard, and poured it under the bed.
Luckily, her third aunt, Meng Shi, would bring her food later.
The original owner of this medicine, Gu Youyou, started drinking it at the age of seven and continued until she was seventeen, finally dying from it six months ago. Then, Gu Youyou, born into a modern family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, took her place.
The day after she arrived, she discovered something was wrong with the medicine. It was administered very cunningly, the other party controlling it perfectly, keeping her alive without truly healing her, thus deceiving the Gu family and making them believe him completely.
Long-term use of this medicine would gradually weaken her body, leaving her bedridden. From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, she suffered from Yang deficiency; in layman’s terms, she had excessive Yin energy.
Logically, she should have died within three years of taking this medicine, but why had she been able to prolong it? The other party was a master; perhaps there were other tricks she hadn’t figured out.
But who would be so cruel to a seven-year-old girl?
A girl from a rural area who had lost her parents—killing her would be incredibly easy. What could possibly justify such a long and elaborate scheme? Why would someone want to harm her while simultaneously preventing her death?
Just then, the voices of Second Aunt and Third Aunt came from the front yard, “Second Sister-in-law, how did it go? Did you tell Youyou about this?”
“Of course I did! That little devil was so happy she even sat up in bed.”
Gu Youyou: “…”
Actually, she could sit up a long time ago, and even walk for a while, but she just didn’t let anyone know.
“Oh, she can sit up now? Didn’t she stop being able to sit up two years ago?”
Second Aunt Huang spat and said, “That’s right, that little devil hasn’t died after all these years, and as soon as she heard she was getting married, she perked up completely. I bet she can even jump onto the flower bed herself in three days.”
