Chapter 14 The Bridal Chamber
Good heavens, she’s practically dead! If they really consummate their marriage, those people will have guessed right—she won’t survive the wedding night.
Despite her worries, Jin Zijin finally arrived.
The man was tall and imposing, dressed in simple, coarse cloth, with long stubble and dark skin—a true burly man.
Only his eyes were deep and bright, shining mysteriously like stars in the vast universe, unfathomable.
He stood by the bed, looking at her, without saying a word.
Actually, Gu Youyou was exhausted. Normally, even sitting up required a great deal of effort, but today she had not only ridden in a sedan chair for half an hour but also been helped through the wedding ceremony. This day had completely drained all the energy she had accumulated over the past few days.
But she couldn’t sleep. Having strained her senses all day listening to the sounds outside, she now had to strain her senses to avoid being… well, you know…
She only wanted to use the wedding to escape that haunted house; she had no intention of actually becoming husband and wife with this man.
Jin Zijing remained silent, and Gu Youyou was even more at a loss for words.
She had been holding her breath, maintaining her gaze at him, until she was about to give way. Then, Jin Zijing moved.
But this movement was worse than no movement at all, because he began rapidly removing his own clothes and shoes.
His movements were incredibly fast, the entire series of actions completed in a single, fluid motion, taking only a few seconds.
Gu Youyou’s heart leaped into her throat; the taut string finally snapped, and she fainted from fright.
Jin Zijing, having removed his own clothes, saw that Gu Youyou had already fainted and breathed a sigh of relief, then confidently removed his undergarments as well.
It was better she was unconscious, to avoid any awkwardness.
The fair, delicate skin exposed below her neck clashed starkly with his face, as if it had grown into the wrong head.
He pulled out a small knife, cut a gash in his left wrist, then pried open Gu Youyou’s mouth, forcing her to drink his blood.
He gently placed his right hand on her neck to feel her pulse, his brow furrowing slightly.
After hesitating for a moment, as if making a decision, he slipped into her bed, undressed her, and held her cold body tightly in his arms.
The next day, Gu Youyou was awakened by the sunlight streaming through the window. She could finally see the sunlight properly again; it was truly a relief.
The sunlight shone on her blankets, making her feel warmer than ever before, and even her spirits lifted considerably.
She knew it; as long as she stopped taking those medications and got more sun, with her skills in traditional Chinese medicine, she could always heal herself.
Gu Youyou tried to sit up, but found her whole body aching terribly. She tapped on the bed frame, and it thumped loudly.
This bed frame was really hard; even a blanket wouldn’t be enough, just some straw underneath!
Suddenly, she shuddered, realizing that this was no longer her haunted house; this was Jin Zijing’s house, and she was sleeping in Jin Zijing’s bed. But where was Jin Zijing?
There wasn’t a sound outside; he wasn’t home.
Recalling last night, she saw Jin Zijin quickly undress. A man rapidly undressing a woman—it was obvious what he intended to do.
Looking at herself under the covers, oh my god, besides her undergarments, she was completely naked.
In a moment of distraction, in the sunlight streaming through the window, she saw a few drops of blood on the blanket. The dried, dark brown blood made Gu Youyou’s mind race.
A beast, utterly a beast.
